Self esteem usually triggers it - which can be the result of anything from a guy rejecting you to parental issues, to whatever - however, once you're in it long enough, most women find it ends up being a control issue. When that becomes the only thing in your life you feel like you can control is when it becomes most dangerous - and sometimes when you lose control of that is the only time the person actually realizes they need to fix it.

    NEW TWIST TO THE DISCUSSION

I may be wrong but you certainly don't hear women doing this nearly as much as men do:

Why do a lot of men dump their wives that they've been married to for years for some trophy wife?

    Hmmmm?
I sincerely doubt that men file for divorce more often than women do. I think it's more 2/3 to 1/3. From the beginning of time, women have been the ones who kept relationships together, they're tired of it, and divorces are way up. I ain't saying it's fair, I'm just calling a spade a spade.

I call BS. My dad used to belong to this raquetball club and a lot of the people he played with dumped their wives (these were men in their 50s) for someone younger.

    Because those men are shallow.

But believe me, there's a lot of shallow women who would gladly dump their aging, sagging old husband for a younger version do. And if you are asking why less women do it -- $$$$$$$.

People get divorced all the time for various reasons.

But why would a man get a trophy wife as a replacement?

    Because he can, I imagine.

Yeah, I guess you're right. This was So CA.

When my dad was here, he and I were drinking some margaritas at the bar at the corner restaurant. Neither of us wear a wedding ring so I was wondering if people thought were a couple. I don't know if I look enough like him anymore for people to tell I was his daughter..

Really the only way to give a fair answer to that question is if you know whether or not men more often cheat on their wives than women on their husbands... If it's about equal, then I would say Kori is dead on.

I may be overgeneralizing a bit, but I think the reason divorces are up is because women aren't dependent for survival on their husbands the way they once were. They leave because they can.

Often these days you have a husband that expects roles to be the way they were in his house growing up, with the wife waiting hand and foot on the husband and kids, even though these days she's probably working as many hours outside the home as he is. He expects her to defer to his judgment at all times, even though she's probably at least as educated and well-read as he is.

On the other hand, you also have cases where the unreasonable nagging wife expects the husband to change at her whim, and gets frustrated and leaves when she realizes men don't work that way.

And then of course, you have young Christians who want to screw each other real bad, so they get married for the exclusive purpose of getting laid "legally" even though they have no business getting married.

In each of these cases, the woman is no longer trapped in the relationship.

I can agree with that asessment.

Either way, there aren't a whole lot of compelling arguments FOR marriage anymore. Legally, you would never sign a contract with such horrible terms, which is why emotions have to play such a strong part.

Spurschick, you seem upset that men place so much value on a women's looks. Yet when we were at the AlamoDome celebration, you, Jekka, and RashoFan were going down the Spurs roster and naming which players that you guys would "hit". So, were you all basing that on personality? Because as far as I know, none of you know any of the Spurs. So I'd think you were basing it on looks.

I'm not meaning to call you out. But you are coming across as a little judgemental in this thread when guys post pictures of hot chicks and say they want to "hit" it or do other things that base women solely on looks.

Weren't you three women doing the same thing?

I doubt Playboy is even in the top 10 of men's magazines. There is a fetching young lady on the cover this month, though, with lots of "curves".
