Texas is in the same place as USC was last year. They had one of the worst recruiting classes ever last year and USC was forced to keep Helton. This might be the same place Texas is in right now. However we might be in a worse spot because anyone can leave without losing anything. , we could lose the whole team to transfer.

    Herman needs to go.

The question becomes whether you pay Herman's and the assistants' buy outs to bring in your second tier choices. You're paying $20 million on the buyouts, the new HC salary and the pool for the new assistants. Who is worth that? Cristobal? Franklin? Campbell? There was only one guy worth that and for now, it looks like he's not coming.

i'm not so sure that aggy fans think they have anything made; the perception i get from other fans is that there is progress being made in regards to consistency and shoring up some traditional weak spots (e.g., the defensive line, size, depth and recruiting). most aggy fans i know are well aware of how much more work needs to be done if one ever has any aspirations of getting anywhere near 'bama.
As I have stated before you are one of the most unusual Aggies I have read. My Aggie friends are always in some sort of denial. Giving Jimbo that big ring... yikes... no pressure. You guys are were we should be. 4 year QB settled in nicely because he has an offensive line. Add to that your defensive line is so much more athletic than ours. We win this conf easily without a loss with your lines. You guys most likely don’t get to your playoff.

Is it at all possible to get an interim one year coach and hope for greener pastures or this just ruins recruiting?

Because it looks like there are plenty of Tom Herman’s available for 4 years. I guess I’m trying to say is there such a thing as a holding pattern where we don’t crash and burn? We need to get creative. Someone give props to a guy who could turn it around... Urban has done the right thing by his family and health apparently because he had a chance to get a punch back at Herman while possibly becoming one of the greatest football minds I CFB history.

As a worse case scenerio, I would fire Herman, keep all the assistants and make Ash the Intrum head coach. If it so be that he is the intrum coach for next season also, then so be it.

The other side is to offer money to some of the NFL guys to see if any of them are interested.

Finally, we roll the dice on another up and coming and hope we hit the jackpot. After enduring Herman's BS, I'd want someone who acts like an adult and who also runs a good open offense. And I would definitely take a hard look at Art Briles.

It was amazing to me how much better Texas' OL played when Jake Majors was at center. He should have been starting most of the year, IMO. He's lacking a little strength as to be expected, but his lateral quickness for an OL is A+.

I feel like Traylor would be a roll of the dice but he has the most CEO-type coach feel of the candidates that I feel like would entertain the job. Have him bring Mattox back with him from UTSA and call it day. Keep OC & DC and the rest of the staff and go from there.

there is a contingency of aggie fans that can be as delusional as cowboys fans but i assure you there are those who have been burned enough as aggie fans to know that one can never take anything for granted with the aggie football program. and even if a&m somewhow squeaked into the playoffs this year (and i'm not even sure how COVID will impact this), they would draw Bama right off the bat. and while i think a&m would account better for itself in a rematch, they would still lose by at least two or three touchdowns.

    The above makes you sane.
Why did you go to ATM?
jk They have great animal and plant science research going on there, I know that. Its really a good school with the most passionate fans, even if a number of them are irrational.

i think that if UT was willing to take a shot at Urban, then why not go after Steve Sarkisian? I think he'd strongly consider the offer since he likely wants a head coaching job in the near future. he'd be a great fit for the big XII, imo.

At the moment, I think no one knows who Texas is vetting to potentially replace Herman. My gut tells me this Urban Myer thing isn't over just yet.

I've never seen a school go from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows in this small amount of time. What a dumpster fire!
