I think the realization that Trump is a loser is settling in for GOP elites. Unfortunately for them, there's no way to break it to their feral base without alienating them.

The GOP elites never wanted Trump before he made President, nor after. [The GOP elites] are part of the Fraternity that encompasses D & R alike. Here comes Trump, makes it all the way and now said (elites) have to toe THAT line, or, they won't survive. They held their noses and soldiered in the sure reality that (some day) they'd get back to the regularly scheduled . Now? Now they see the end of the nightmare, it's within reach and their powder is dry for when Trump is actually put down. Then they'll open fire.

The funny thing is that, if Trump runs and loses in 2024 (which is likely), he can and probably will run again and lose again in 2028. Why wouldn't he? As long as he's "campaigning", the grift can continue. GOP hitched their wagon to a proven loser, who doesn't know when to quit and stop losing.
