He voted for Trump three times. Then ICE came for his wife, who had entered legally, sought asylum under the process even Trump used to say was “the right way,” and was months away from a green card.

breaking up American families, threatening people with lengthy detention in the immigration gulag for trying to keep their family together

Two Fort Worth teenagers, suddenly on their own. For nearly a year, 19-year-old Dulce Zepeda has been raising her 13-year-old sister, Maria, in the months since their parents were arrested by ICE and then deported.

When NBC 5 Investigates first met Dulce and Maria in April, they were living in a Fort Worth apartment complex. Dulce, cooking, driving her sister to middle school, working at a local McDonald’s, and selling her mother’s jewelry, she said, to help pay bills.
The girls are U.S. citizens and legally en led to remain in the country. But some immigration advocates say their case is a stark example of the precarious situations facing thousands of U.S. citizen children whose parents have been detained during the Trump Administration’s immigration crackdown.
After about 40 days, she said her parents were deported, leaving her to raise her sister. Their mother told NBC 5 Investigates she repeatedly told ICE she wanted to take the girls with her to Honduras. But Munoz said ICE told her that wasn’t possible, unless she wanted to spend at least four or five additional months in a detention center.

deputizing local officials to enforce immigration law and offering insurance to defray the possible cost of brutalizing detainees and bystanders

while subtracting them from their local public safety mission

Cops willing to work with Trump’s violent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) thugs are being offered a new insurance scheme to protect them from misconduct charges. The scheme would cost officers $250 a year, but that cost would be reimbursed.

    CNN reported on 18 August:

The agency is proposing to subsidize liability insurance for state and local officers who are trained and deputized to enforce federal immigration laws, according to a planning do ent published Friday.

ICE’s partnerships with local departments have soared since President Donald Trump returned to the White House last year and may get an additional boost with liability insurance by removing a hurdle that has made some local police departments reluctant to join.

    The scheme wouldprovide:

up to $500,000 in personal liability, which typically funds legal fees, settlements and judgments.

Critics have warned this was another way to shield state agents from accountability. Cato Ins ute director of immigration studies David Biertold CNN:

The concern here is that ICE is going above and beyond to guarantee law enforcement does not have even the slightest risk of liability for violating Americans’ rights while helping ICE arrest people.

HSI has no business at all surveilling peaceful Americans not involved in transnational crimes

As writer John Ganz has noted, Trump’s secret police force is made up of the MAGA “demimonde” and the “Trumpenproletarian mob.” And indeed, Trump’s political project has long been all about turning loose “his” people—law enforcement, biker gangs, coal miners, Ultimate Fighting enthusiasts—against the leftist enemy that inhabits blue America. The centrality of violence to all this is not disguised in the least. ICE recruitment targets MAGA-adjacent UFC fanbases and people who show an interest in paramilitary tactical equipment or military recruitment. ICE messaging openly glorifies military-style operations in urban areas—that is, in blue America’s diverse, cosmopolitan strongholds. Trump talks about Minneapolis as akin to an enemy country populated with undesirables who must be purged by MAGA patriots.

Now we’re learning that this war on blue America also includes extensive undercover surveillance. Many of these agents appear to have been drawn largely from Homeland Security Investigations, the arm of ICE that’s supposed to be focused on serious, complex, transnational crimes. They’ve now been reduced to standing around in parking lots writing down protesters’ license plate numbers and using sleazy deception tactics to spy on fellow Americans whose only crime is sympathy with immigrants.

pure racial profiling, no removal order existed for this guy

Why ICE agents were chasing him is unclear — Mejia Hernandez did not have a removal order at the time of the alleged assault."We think this is just a case of a brown man caught walking down the street," his attorney told me.

He wears the bruises of a beaten man and bears the diagnosis of a brain hemorrhage that’s left him frightened, in pain and confused.

Not much in Jose Mejia Hernandez’s life feels particularly clear right now, except for one thing — his desire for answers.

How did he end up here? In a Virginia hospital? With ICE officers hovering nearby?

“He doesn’t know what happened. He doesn’t remember anything that happened after he was tasered. He’s blank,” Mejia Hernandez’s attorney, Carlos Jurado, told HuffPost.

    heroic, tbh

Laurie was on her way to a gate at the airport where she worked as a manager when a colleague called with a warning: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents had turned up again and were asking airline staff to help locate a passenger.

She had years of experience cooperating with federal law enforcement. But the encounters she was accustomed to followed a protocol: airline managers were notified in advance, officers arrived in uniform with their badges visible and judicial warrants were presented for passenger arrests.

    ...

“I know this is going to sound extremely radical, or crazy,” she recounted telling the woman, “but ICE is there at the gate, and they're looking for you."

There was a pause. “Are you serious?” the woman asked.

“Yes,” Laurie said. “I know this is crazy, but I promise you. I'm being serious.”

“Should I leave?” the woman asked. “I think it might be best if you do,” Laurie said

Conservatism mimics an ethical system becuz there's good & evil but all the evil (& legal consequences thereof) is projected onto outgroups (immigrants, blacks, transgenders/target du jour)

Trumpism is an occult religion in which harming outgroups mystically benefits ingroups (cf. human sacrifice)

    'worst of the worst"

ting backwards on people like this is dishonorable

A former spy who infiltrated al-Qaeda and Isis for the CIA has been detained by ICE and is now facing deportation, The Times can reveal.

Blerim Skoro, 55, a Kosovan refugee, played a crucial role in intercepting terror plots in the wake of the September 11 attacks. He worked for America for almost a decade, risking his life to infiltrate al-Qaeda camps in Pakistan during the hunt for Osama bin Laden.

A prized informant of the American intelligence services whose work took him to some of the most dangerous parts of the Middle East, he passed on vital information that prevented al-Qaeda from supplying weapons to jihadists.

After ending his career as an informant in 2010, Skoro claims the intelligence services promised him US citizenship. Yet on August 3 this year he was detained by officers from Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) while attending a routine biometrics appointment in New Jersey to renew his work permit.

The father of three, who works as a taxi driver, was granted leave to remain in 2022 under the United Nations Convention against Torture. Skoro successfully argued that, if he was to be deported to Kosovo, his life would be in danger as a result of his undercover work with jihadist groups.

ORR wants concentration camps for kids in 2027

The order came a day before the federal government held an online meeting for detention contractors to discuss expanding immigrant child imprisonment even further. As the Prospect reported, the government is seeking new detention sites across the country, including facilities capable of supporting up to 3,000 children..

“If it’s a permanent facility, if it’s a temporary building, if it’s a site that is blank that you plan on building on, whatever the case may be we will definitely look at it and take into consideration,” Tony Canelas, a branch chief in the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), said on the call. The key consideration, he told contractors, is that the facility should be fully operational within 90 days. The date for releasing a request for proposal is not set, but the government aims to grant awards by December 31, Canelas said.

reasons: immigrants create more wealth and jobs than they take

immigration is beneficial to the USA per se, regardless of the manner of entry

we need to create a more orderly and predictable system; what we're doing right now harms us without any measurable benefit.

Cuban refugees from communism refouled to Mexico

For 50 years, Cuba didn't take deportations. Now the Trump admin is dumping elderly Cubans ordered deported decades ago into southern Mexico, many who have been complying with immigration check-ins since before ICE existed.

There should be a statute of limitations/expiration date on removal orders.

lied in his official capacity, allowed to retire quietly

Former Border Patrol chief Gregory Bovino retired while under internal investigation for his conduct during immigration enforcement operations in Minneapolis and Chicago, records released last week by the federal government show.

In early March, an internal government watchdog contacted Bovino with an “official Inquiry into allegations of misconduct reported to CBP,” emails released by Customs and Border Patrol show.

The official, whose name was redacted by the agency, asked Bovino to acknowledge receipt of the do ent and answer questions. That email went out on March 2, according to the records.
Days later, on March 18, Bovino emailed an official informing them that he plans to retire and move.
