They signed a piece of paper with no guarantees from NKNo one has ever gotten into PRNK to have these kinds of discussions because they didn't have a nuke. Now they maybe have one (or not) and the world was like " 's about to get real, Kim is going to launch!" and now an unconventional (to say the least) president has met with the leader of NK and talks have begun.
Party liners here and elsewhere will do anything to throw shade on it because it wasn't their guy doing it. Could be all hot air, who knows. Do you prefer to not have talks with NK and let them do their own thing?

That is the professional view of the event. Kind of like the professional view of the stupid Kansas tax cuts is that trickle down economics is utter bull , akin to the morons who think that vaccines cause autism.

The propaganda coup is that Un gets something neither of his predecessors got, i.e. photo-ops of him as an equal to the US president, as opposed to a pariah with a toxic miasma around him.
They have been angling for this for years, but no president was so gullible as to agree to it without preconditions.
so besides the photo op with DJT and symbolic dimensions of that, what did NK get, other than a US promise to halt military exercises that might easily be reversed?
Well now China is pushing for sanction relief on NK. So we will see.
so basically, other than an agreement to keep talking, very little has happened.
That is an important thing to point out. The exercise thing is easy to reverse. To be fair: The win is a mild one for NK. Trump can go back to "fire and fury" at any time, but will look like a simp WHEN NK renegs, and they will.
The damage though, is as always to US prestige. SK realizes we may not live up to our promises, and that message is reverberating around the Pacific rim. China is the big winner on balance, because they look to have orchestrated this, with the US taking a credibility hit.
Countries that have been resisting some Chinese pressure/aggression will think twice about standing up to China, since they know the US may not really have their backs. That is the 2nd order consequence.
Eyup. Dunno, as much as I know this is a mild win for NK as it stands, seems worth a shot.

In all due seriousness: I am willing to give Crooked Donny the credit for trying some , even if it is out of complete ignorance and hubris. If it works, good, but I would not bet on it doing so. Conventional wisdom is usually conventional for a reason.
