    Yeah, he’s making the cut I think.

    IMO, the guys who may on the outs (given their lack of involvement and being featured so far this summer):

    JRich
    Langford
    Poeltl
    ZCollins
    McDermott

    KBD has somewhat been involved… but I’m including him on this list

    All the whining about McDermott’s contract since he signed with the Spurs has proven to be pointless. His contract has had no impact on the team’s cap flexibility (did you want space for two max players? For what?). He’s far from untradeable no matter how much folks like to spin it.

    If you are going to tank nothing matters but getting younger and getting assets.

    Great to hear from an NBA expert on this board about the one and only path to championships.

    Zollins was guaranteed already and probably has little trade value otherwise. Don’t see any reason to move him. He showed signs last year and will only be better conditioned and more comfortable with the system next year.

    Haven’t heard a peep about Langford since he was acquired but still think he gets a training camp invite given he is also fully guaranteed. Could also be used as trade filler if/when we eventually get busy in free agency.

    Will be hard to move McDermott without taking bad a bad contract unless it’s part of a larger deal.

    JRich probably doesn’t get you more than two SRPs. His leadership/vet presence may be enough reason to keep him.

    Time to sell on Jak is now. No reason for him to be here on opening night.

    Those picks are garbage. Like three Charlotte picks all in a row. They only work as minor incentive in three transactions, but they misread the market and ended up getting everything done with just seconds. And they didn't even end up needing the space. That was an absolute faux pas of a trade for them.
    Thank you. This board would be howling with rage if those were picks we got in a trade. People HATED that CHA pick we got, and that 2023 DET FRP is more heavily protected than our CHA pick.

    Why are you assuming Detroit and Washington will convey but Charlotte won't? It's not like the Hornets pick is a one-shot. It's three years and then seconds. You're contrasting that with five years of protections into one second and four years of protections and two seconds. As mentioned before, the Denver pick isn't even theirs anymore, so they won't reap the benefits of it conveying. They were able to convince Charlotte to take it, so it's already conveyed its value there, I guess.
    I didn't say Charlotte's pick won't convey, I said there's a real chance it doesn't, since it's a REALLY long shot to do so in 2023 (top 16 protected) and they have basically 2 years to make it to the playoffs (2024 or 2025). Let's compare the picks:
    YEAR TEAM / PROTECTED RANGE
    2023: Charlotte 1-16 --- Washington 1-14 --- Detroit 1-18 --> unlikely any will convey, might as well be 2024 picks.
    2024: Charlotte 1-14 --- Washington 1-12 --- Detroit 1-18 --> better chance of conveying for all 3 picks, but very well may not.
    2025: Charlotte 1-14 --- Washington 1-10 --- Detroit 1-13 --> Detroit's pick should convey, Washington's or Charlotte may or may not.
    2026: Charlotte *** --- Washington 1- 8 --- Detroit 1-11 --> will surely convey by now, if it didn't, although a late first rounder
    2026: Charlotte *** --- Washington *** --- Detroit 1 - 8 --> will surely convey by now, if it didn't, although as a late first rounder
    Clearly the Detroit pick is the safest of the 3, with Washington's being a good combination between high ceiling and good chance of conveying. The Charlotte pick as a 2 year bet they make the playoffs (the 2 seasons after next). I think it's extremely unlikely they are not only a playoff team, but outside the bottom 2 playoff teams, which is what is required for it to convey. So I'm not thrilled about the prospects of that pick, IMO it's a tossup.

    This tweet is a bit dated. I believe another report said he traveled with the team so he must have cleared protocols and hopefully will play some.

    The Detroit pick is guaranteed to convey, given the length and decreasing nature of its protections. The Charlotte pick is not, our best bet is to hope is they don't lose Miles Bridges for nothing, and continue to push hard towards the playoffs. Right now their odds don't look great, but with the play in you can sneak in there as a 10th seed and earn your place with only 2 good games, so it's not out of the question either.

    Yup that was June 29.

    https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/ba...from-covid-19/

    Sochan has been unable to practice with the Spurs after recently testing positive for COVID-19, according to Tom Osborn of the San Antonio Express-News. He returned to the Spurs' facilities Tuesday and will join the team in Las Vegas for the 2022 NBA 2k23 Summer League, independent NBA writer Matthew Tynan reports.
    This will ultimately be a small blip to the start of Sochan's professional career, but his inability to take part in practice since being drafted two weeks ago means that he's a candidate to spend more time spectating in Las Vegas than participating. Looking further ahead, Sochan will likely spend his rookie season in a reserve role behind Keldon Johnson.

    in a nuts , sochan has cleared one part of protocol in that he is no longer positive for COVID and can be around the team. he has not cleared the conditioning part of protocol as of yet and this would be what would keep him out of playing in the summer league, unless he can clear this hurdle in time to participate in a game or two.

    Haha I feel you. Would you be okay with the Spurs drafting him at 9 or nah?
    Yes, he was my top pick at 9 (assuming Murray and Mathurian were gone as most, but not all boards projected).

    I then wanted Daniels then Sochan. Daniels was gone at 8. We then passed on Dieng, and got Sochan who I think will be great and with whom I'm very happy. (This isn't the same for me as us passing on Sengun last year to move up for Primo way ahead of where he was slotted). OKC then traded 3 FR picks to move back up and get. He'll be fine. More than fine.

    The last sentenceis what royally pisses me off. Behind Keldon Johnson means Pop is still trying to make Keldon a 4. Everyone on this board knows Keldon is misplaced there.

    Yeah I wanted to delete but part of the article.

    Well Chinook thinks McD and Keldon will still be at 3 and 4. But I’m with you. I don’t want Keldon at 4 especially since we also picked up Roby. But again, I think they should start Sochan from day 1 especially if Poeltl is playing next to him. Though it might even be harder to move McD and his salary unless they showcase him. I don’t know.

    That's where the difference between 1-16 and 1-14 protections comes in. Sneaking into the playoffs via the play-in all but guarantees the #15 or #16 pick.

    Roby isn’t NEAR good enough to displace an acknowledged undersized Keldon. KJ just s all over him.

    Kawhi didn’t start out of training camp. He got the nod 20ish games in.

    Hence why I said "the Charlotte pick as a 2 year bet they make the playoffs (the 2 seasons after next)" because I'm assuming it's next to impossible it conveys in 2023 under those guarantees. 2024/2025 via play in is our best bet.

    Gotcha. With Burning Bridges gone, it's very hard to see the Hornets making the top 6 in the East this year.

    They don’t have to finish in the top6 in the East, they have to finish with the 14th or better overall NBA record, and not lose a playin game. The draft isn’t compartmentalized by conference. Their pick would just have to be between 17 and 30, regardless of conference standings. The could finish 8th if there are 2 WC teams that have worse records, but make the playoffs, and they don’t lose the play in.

    Agreed, he's definitely going to need more weight on that frame to withstand a grueling season in the NBA
    Adding weight on such a tall skinny frame can be a two-edged sword. These freakishly tall skinny guys can be very vulnerable to overloading those bones, especially feet, with lots more weight and muscle. Perhaps The most memorable player who had enormous problems with his feet was Bill Walton, but remember Gred Oden, Andrew Bynum, and Brad Daugherty should be on that list of bigs whose physical structure simply wasn't capable of supporting their playing skills and requirements over a long career. There are others who soldiered on with injuries, but may have never found the peak s om of a long career.
