How many of Houston's overpaid young misfits will still be with the team by the time FVV's huge contract comes to an end?

I love the Champegnie deal. If he continues to shoot well it is a steal. If he drops off it is super cheap and we get out after 3 yrs

That‘s a great deal. I like that the Spurs are locking up guys like him and Bassey on 4-year deals. If they develop into something bigger those contracts are of a bargain and you‘ll need those role players on small contracts once the cap gets tight. Just look at who the Suns signed

You expressed concern about the Spurs overpaying players. That risk is mitigated if they slightly overpay young kids that the rest of the team likes.
I think you are confusing me with someone else, no biggie - but I don't think I've ever expressed to much concern about overpaying players. I kind of expect us to.

I don't mind the contract, just surprised by the length (the $ are irrelevant - $2.5MM or $3MM, who cares)

How much do the Sprockets (I like that name timvp) have left to squander?
About $24 million. Supposedly they had a 2/$40 offer to Brook Lopez that has been sweetened with the extra room. Maybe to $50.

Weren't the Spurs interested in Cedi Osman previously? I thought I remember reports they had their eyes on him a few years ago.

Still plenty of room to make a splash if they wanted (narrator: they didn't want to)

Maybe I did. Sorry about that. Someone worried that paying Tre too much money could generate tension with the other players.
Definitely surprised at the length, but even if they had to cut him, its less dead money than Primo.

I'd assume his teammates will be happy for him. It seems like Tre is really well liked (Derrick, Dev and Eubanks are at his wedding apparently) so they'll all be psyched for him.

Great point about the dead money. And with year 4 being a team option, the risk is low. I like Julian, so I like this move. The Bassey/Champangie moves are the fun little ones that can really pay off big if they develop into solid role players.

We're running it back with the team Wright built to lose games, Wemby probably adds maybe 10 wins or so, so i guess we'll be high lottery.

Wemby strikes me as the kind of talent, prospect and cornerstone that wants no part of tanking. Spurs will clearly see that.

Additionally there aren’t pressing needs for a transcending number 1 pick that we should tank for and we have enough draft capital that we could buy up into a draft if we absolutely had to have someone we highly coveted.

I don’t see any reason to tank.

cap space hasnt really changed. they can stay on their cap holds for the time being, until we fill up the rest of our space. and then they can sign their new deals

That’s a bit disingenuous. They put a core together that speaks to future development and then managed that team and its contracts consist with tanking.

This team was never run last year with the intention of winning.

I think it’s really smart to run it back because our core was always built on the idea that it was a team waiting for its number 1.
