I had assumed that Koponen's draft rights were only included because each team in a trade has to give up something, but the Mavs also traded away the #58 pick and cash. Why were Koponen's rights even included? As a joke?

I remember talking about him at length back in the day. He was a prospect I liked. Mostly because that's perhaps the most amazing team name I can imagine.

I was more thinking they were trying to clean up their asset sheet.

Looking at ours, Spotrac says we still retain the rights to Robertas Javtokas. The guy is 44 years old. But maybe next year is his year!

And Viktor Sanikidze?! I remember long threads about him after some solid Summer League games in Vegas. But now he's just a 38 year old unsigned draft prospect.

It's hard to square the Spurs' obsession with collecting 2nd Round picks with their almost pathological aversion to using them in any meaningful way.
