Yeah, the reward for leading the Spurs' summer league in points, rebounds, assists and blocks is to be traded to another team. Nice precedence.
They will still be those who go against the grain to just go against the grain. If the Spurs traded Beno for Dwight Howard, some people would be against it just to try to be different.
Before the news that Scola will be joining the Rockets THIS YEAR, I could see living with this trade. But now that Scola is coming over, this trade officially makes no sense.

Wait until we see the price. I have a feeling it'll be in line with Oberto and Bonner's contracts, if that.
Ludden's article said that we got a trade exception out of this. It better have been a BIG ass one.
This is bull .
Meanwhile Beno Udrih remains a San Antonio Spur.
A mil at most.
With Butler finally out of the way, Marucs Williams will single handedly definte summer league basketball once he goes SLC Punk.
LMAO if Scola gets a 3 year for 9-10 just like has been reported all along!
I'm sure Bonner lovers will get a kick out of that!
So, is Scola finally getting his chance to play in the NBA this year?
If so...even if it is a horrible trade makes me happy.
Oh I forgot, he didn't add a 3-pt shot to his arsenal so he was of no value to Pop
ing A. WHy would we do this?
I propose that we trade Manu for Adonal Foyle and a sack of potatoes. Holt loves potatoes.
the matter is not that you manage anything for the spurs but the idea of business is business. my point is that the product may not suffer all that much based on scola's continued absence with no end in sight and butler showing only limited progress (less than 15 ppg in summer league, multiple fouls, with some nba experience with two of the better coaches in the league?). what's more, the business of business is to make money, regardless of the product (thus the clippers continue to exist). do you seriously think the spurs are going to miss the playoffs because of this trade? or get bumped out of the first round? and if neither of those things occur, then this team will be on par with just about every spurs team that earned those millions since duncan arrived, having either won it all or gotten bumped in the second round. what's more, sheesh, there's a whole new season just a year from now, corrections can be made and adjustments had. to be blunt, the fans aren't going to abandon the team because of this trade, so the millions remain, the business remains, and holt makes more money. why would he not do it? this outcry just seems over the top for an unproven scola and bench-rider for not only a championship team but the league's worst team in new york, regardless of what brown whispered to pop about potential.
all i'm saying is that i'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, the idea being they've proven they've got enough moxy to make a team run and that duncan is that great along with manu and tony.
and as for our roster, give me a break. butler wasn't making that huge of a difference and we actually have 12 folks on the roster, not five.
This is the price the Spurs pay for getting desperate to dump a salary.
We should have been so fortunate. The difference between their salaries for 2007-08 was likely $400K. So there you go...
Timvp- I truly am sorry. I know the hopes you had for Butler when he joined the Spurs and I, of all people, completely understand the personal disappointment when it ends this way.
I took alot of crap from people the past week or so about Butler, but I knew it was coming soon. When Ludden wrote what he did today, I knew it was imminent. Those things are said for a reason and as a set-up to prepare the fans for what they are about to do.
I admit that I gave Butler a hard time- mostly because in my mind, he was Rasho's replacement. Elson was really Nazr's replacement. But I did see his recent progress- I just knew it was too late. When Holt decides he wants you gone, it does not matter what you do after that. Learned that the hard way, too.
So, as a consolation, you can go ahead and change my motto to "I love Jackie Butler" for the next month.![]()
If the Spurs are so desperate to clear salary, watch for them to cut White before 8-1 so they can cheap out of his 100k and not even have him at camp.
Ludden already did his job laying the foundation for layperson uneducated Express-News readers to be all for it.
lol
Resigning Bonner cost the Spurs Jackie Butler and Luis Scola.
Pop does not like him and does not think he is that smart. He was never going to play for the Spurs as long as Pop was coaching.
Dammit.
At least Butler might get PT over there in Houston. Tim Duncan, Yao Ming and perhaps Hakeem as his tutors? Damn.
We should have gotten Hayes or even Battier.
It's coming. Butler had some skills but unfortunately wasn't All-NBA 1st Defensive Team caliber.
If Spanoulis was going to play for the team I would be more intrigued. But with Spanoulis staying abroad (and us having to buy him out even)...thats bull .
Why the would we buy him out either? If he refuses to come then we should simply null his contract for infringement. I'm not going to pay that er a dime to just change his mind and go pout in Europe.
I wasn't the biggest Butler fan either. I'm a Scola-backer by far. I didn't think Butler had as much potential defensively or blockwise, and didn't like how he still managed to be overweight.
BUT I would have never traded supported trading him to a WC team for nothing. Especially not to Houston.
And I sure as wouldn't throw in Scola to sweeten the deal of gold for turd.
Why is Beno Udrih still a Spur?
