Ukraine has made a big political impression with this operation, not just militarily.
It's essentially all political. This is hardly any real strategic military value. It's not like they're capturing airfields, oil depots, or that kind of thing.

That said, if it forces Putin to the negotiating table faster because of the political implications, then that's a good thing. I assume that was part of the aim of it, the other part was to make headlines and rally more support (e.g., your taxpayer dollars).

Militarily it shows that Russia can’t defend itself everywhere. Actual Russian ground is not sacred anymore.
Citizens are involved who have not felt war. And the political part keeps the military part relevant.
It’s not a one way street.

And again if you are really worried about debt you would start a thread on Medicare, private insurance, and drug costs. There are very doable parts of this problem that would save billions immediately. Also worry about US spending on drone warfare because we are way behind the curve and we know it.

There's more to all this mess that we're lacking information on more than likely and that's by design. Either way I agree with your sentiments.

They broke the lines. The only thing slowing them down was fuel. If they push, they are going to roll up the flanks as they manuver behind their lines.

Yep, very similar to Kharkiv offensive when the only info was from panicked Russian bloggers, only now with even less info from Ukraine side. Very impressive secops so far.

In Kharkiv Russia was then able to stop the Ukrainians by throwing their newly forming army they were preparing for new offensive in Donbas and even then they were never able to recapture the lost territory. I doubt they have a new army, fully equipped and almost ready to go right now, which why they are pulling troops from all over the front. They will hobble something together eventually to stop the bleeding. I think they will pull out of Vovchansk in minimum.

I can imagine the Russians were congratulating themselves how they managed to dupe the "Ukronazis" into moving lots of troops to Sumy to defend from the non existent Russian invasion. A true 3d chess vs. checkers moment.

Ukraine’s Kursk Offensive Blitzed Russia With Electronic Warfare And Drones (forbes.com)

Russian military commentators called for their forces to ‘blanket the sky’ with VT-40 FPV drones and wipe out the Kursk incursion. The VT-40 made by volunteers group Sudoplatov is made under Ministry of Defence contract and produced in vast quan ies. But one of the major criticisms has been that the makers have been slow to update the control frequencies, so after a while they become easy to jam. That seems to have been exactly what has happened here.

The Russians are well aware of this vulnerability to electronic warfare, and are introducing new semi-autonomous FPV drones with optical guidance. These allow the operator to lock on from a distance and continue to the target regardless of jamming. But they are not yet present in large numbers and likely none have been supplied to low-priority sectors like the defensive line at Kursk.

This opens up a window in time where a jamming blitz can succeed and give total drone dominance for long enough to make a breakthrough.

Just read a UK Defense Intelligence post that said 90+ % of the news about the Kursk “incursion” is from the Russian Federation. And so far all that news is shocking, embarrassing, and bad for the RF.

If things look this bad with the propaganda meter ratcheted all the way up, just imagine the semen cloud that would be produced if/when we hear the full extent
