100% agree with all of that. I don't get this at all.
McEvoy is supposed to have a meeting with Harsin today.

Update on JUCO QB Tanner McEvoy from 24/7. Sounds like Texas is pretty damn serious and Mack is flying out to see his family in the near future. I don't know if his folks still reside in New Jersey or have moved since McEvoy graduated high school. The word is he will commit if offered by UT.

“They (Texas) are coming by,” Minnick said. “I just found out from Tanner a little bit ago. They just called last week, got tape on him, and really liked him.”

“I heard Mack Brown is flying out to see his dad, so it’s probably a done deal, I would think,” he said.

I'm sitting at my desk at work trying to process this. Texas is out trying to get a commitment from a JUCO QB while the biggest problem is probably in Bellmont somewhere drawing up new blitz schemes for the Alamo Bowl. It's just disheartening all the way around.

Other than it reeking of Mack's desperation and it signaling his return for 2013, it's an odd move to me. I understood the staff taking a hard look at Wallace last year, but the timing of this move doesn't make sense on the surface considering Ash had a nice year. No matter how you feel about Ash, QB is not one of the gaping holes in this program right now. Investing in a wildcard, JUCO QB seems unnecessary.

I'm certainly in the minority amongst Texas fans, but I don't think Ash will ever get us there. I thought this last year and this year did not change my opinion one bit.

Yes I agree he stat line drastically improved this year. However, if you watch the film, all of Ash's big games were when the other team loaded the box with 8-9 men and dared him to throw. People know to beat Texas you shut down the run and they gave man on man coverage constantly - and that is against a lot of bad defenses we played constantly getting man-to-man. Note Ash only played against a 7 man front for pretty much an entire game against OU - that's it. Nobody else gave him respect to play the pass. And we saw the result against OU. That defense that gave up 788 yards to West Virginia only allowed what, like 30 passing yards to Ash in the first half - pretty much all on one play being a jump ball? Yikes. But hey, at least OU has talented players, lest we bring up result for Kansas.

The QB position is in dire need. I sure hope Connor Brewer is developing to compete for job next year. And PS - for those waiting on Overstreet - he is very much a work in progress, I have seen him in practices and he seriously lacks any accuracy (and this is just in drills w/o pressure). I just don't see that happening.

Big recruiting news per 24/7. Bryan Harsin is in Yuma, AZ today to check out JUCO QB Tanner McEvoy. He's 6-6/215, dual-threat QB originally from New Jersey and signed with South Carolina in 2011. He redshirted his first year and had a marijuana charge in August. He transferred out to Arizona Western a few weeks later and ended up being the conference's MVP. It's odd that he doesn't have any offers at the moment but Arkansas and Oregon are very interested. McEvoy would be a spring enrollee and have three years to play. Is this a sign that the staff will be coming back?

Don't think he ever had drug charges. He was charged for having booze in his system while driving, not enough for DUI but since he was under 21 any amount is illegal.

I understand those who aren't big on Ash, I just think he's way down the list of issues with this program. The biggest question I have with this move is what Texas thinks they're going to get out of it. Is he going to be a clear upgrade over Ash? We know it's a high risk move but have no idea what the reward will be. Even if McEvoy turns out to be great, will any positive production be nullified by another terrible defense in 2013? I just feel like Texas is all over the map and they're trying to conceal a gunshot wound with a band-aid.

Regardless of what you think about Ash, having 6 scholarship quarterbacks doesn't make sense. Someone has to be transferring; Overstreet is my guess.

Well, combine that with the fact that Case McCoy is a needy, whiny, sensitive, coddled, quasimodoesqe , you're probably going to need a new quarterback in the mix.

The Hicks thing took a weird turn because he said recently (after watching Texas lose to TCU in Austin) he would be sticking with Texas because they stood by him through all of his injury issues. He didn't think Patterson of TCU would do the same for him. I don't blame him for dropping Texas, just found it odd that he changed his mind so quickly.

Or Hicks knows something about Applewhite's future.

First head-to-head Mack has lost to TCU, I believe.
