Good point. Also remember that the Spurs tried to sign Stephen Jackson the next summer before they settled for Brent Barry. All along it sounded like the divorce was due to Jackson's agent (Fegan, IIRC).
Definitely agree that Jack's reputation is inflated. I pretty much see this as a lateral move basketball-wise with a definite positive financially.

He probably still wants it. And he'll ask for it. But no way the Spurs give it to him. He miiiiight get a one year extension after the season if he performs well.
How old was Bowen when he was traded?
Careful. As awesome as 2007 playoff Jackson vs. the Mavs was, 2007 playoff Jackson vs. the Jazz was awful.
Fair enough, coyote geek, but one good series still improves what we gave up, which is no good playoff games, much less a series
I guess I can finally update my sig
Jack still can be the one who fuchs us up in the playoffs
TO's bad shooting at ude ...
rofl @ anybody calling this a lateral basketball move for the Spurs.
Great minds think alike (even though some think faster)
Hmmm... sounds familiar, but I think this guy just left.
I agree.
I think the odds of Jackson being able to "find the magic" here aren't all that good, but they're greater than zero. The Spurs traded something that wasn't going to work for something that might.
ing epic...love the at ude.
Look at Jackson's career stats. Between 2004-2011, he averaged at least 18 ppg seven times and at least 20 ppg four times. Obviously, that was partly because of the role assigned to him. He won't average more than 10 with the Spurs because he will always be the third or fourth option in the offense. But that's okay. He is still capable of scoring 18 ppg given the right situation. It would be erroneous to evaluate his success with the Spurs based on stats. It doesn't give an accurate indication. His stats could all drop off, and he could still have a huge impact on the team's success.

@talkhoops Stephen Jackson hasn't arrived in SA yet, but he has already mentioned the word "extension" three times

Seriously... you all that don't like this. Would you have rather kept RJ? And cot damn...it ing Buckets. Buckets.
Buckets.
He can mention it all he wants, but he's not getting one.
woke up from a long hangover and have been rewarded fck yeah good bye rj o jax
Dude, calm down and use your brain instead of your emotions...
I'm not mad at getting rid of RJ. Let's get that straight. But this trade is NOT a salary dump. If it was, then it would've been smarter to keep RJ and just amnesty his contract at the end of the season. RJ was traded FOR someone, and that someone has a similar salary this year and the next. SJax may or may not be eligible for that same amnesty, but if the Spurs use it, it means the trade was a failure and the Spurs lost a 1st round pick in the process. To further the risk, I understand there's some rule that means SJax, who's reported as injured, must play on the team in a few days to be eligible to play in the playoffs?
Regardless of that, this trade is about making a run for the le. And while I feel as if SJax is a MUCH better fit in the Spurs scheme, there's a REASON why he wasn't resigned by the Spurs in 03 (he was vocally bitter about it as well).
Let's just hope Jax has matured. If I recall, an immature Pao Gasol was upset last year about a rumor surrounding his gf. Lamar Odom is a mess in Dallas. Some guys are just not right chemisty-wise. I'm not sayin SJax is not - as I really hope he is. I'm just mentioning we need to be cautious.
I do hope and pray Pop has got this one...
Fanastic ing news
Wow back to the Spurs, I know Manu is loving this trade.
