Well, it's better he treated you badly now than after 10 yrs with 2 kids and a house and car payment. Good riddance.

Oh, you mean like what happened to me? Exactly. That's kind of creepy.

but I'll be honest and say that I've never looked twice at a guy who was say 5'2, or a guy who weighed 400 pounds, or a guy who's extremely skinny with big glasses or whatever. I know that's superficial of me and I don't blame guys , I blame a lot of that on conditioning that I've gotten ever since I was a kid from Tv, Movies, and ads that bombard us (and a tiny part of it is blamed by my own superficiality).
But see, it's not about Movies, TV, ads, etc. It's about personal preference. And that's okay. It's okay to want a certain type of looking partner, the same as it's okay to want someone who is funny, or someone who is ambitious, etc. They are just traits that make you find someone attractive. If everybody thought everybody was good looking, then every person might as well look the same. We aren't frickin robots, we are human. And it's okay to have likes and dislikes no matter if someone else perceives them as "superficial".

I agree that women are just as guilty of it as men are. I even admitted so earlier and said that I too judge guys by their looks the first time I see them. I don't expect guys to look like Brad Pitt or whatever, but I'll be honest and say that I've never looked twice at a guy who was say 5'2, or a guy who weighed 400 pounds, or a guy who's extremely skinny with big glasses or whatever.
You do realize that Manu and Tony are two of the skinniest males alive, right?

On the other hand, things such as intelligence and personality must also factor in. See?
What is Tony Parker's IQ? I don't know. But seeing as he went to a "sports" high school and didn't go to college, he could very well be really stupid.

And sure Dove is obviously trying to make some money off their campaign---they are a business and this is corporate America. I just think that along with that aspect they are trying to sell something more---a new ideology that teaches women to accept what they are---and of course use Dove products in the process! Obviously they have a lot of critics who are against it, yet I still give them credit for trying to do something that sets them apart from the typical norms of society.
Money is the bottomline. They are a business. Trying to make you believe they are doing something for the greater good is just part of the advertisement. Believe me, if they put 80 pound models in their ads tomorrow and they started selling more, they'd make the switch.

No specific references were intended. It's just good that she cut her dead weight early on, and can go find someone more worthy of her attention.

Oh really? Well, what if they girl was some ordinary, average looking girl, who just happened to be about 100 pounds overweight. What if she then went on a diet or whatever, achieved her ideal weight and got the body of Angelina Jolie......you're saying guys would still stick with their first impression of her now? Even though her personality didn't change, her intelligence didn't change, just her appearance.
Wasn't that an episode of Love Boat?

But you do make a good point

I will say this...I am all for these adds, whatever women need to do to improve their self esteem...but I can live without seeing 250lbers in hiphuggers(or whatever they call them now) and half shirts...I mean there are just certain body types that can't pull off certain looks...and it's disastrous to try it.

    That needs to stop.

Yes, but my point was that my "personal preferences" are shaped by what I've seen on the so called "ideal looking person" that is on TV, movies, ads, etc. That's what most of our measuring stick is. What judgement do you base it on if some guy is too fat? or too skinny? or too ugly? Sure some of it may be personal preference or whatever, but I think a lot is just subconscious comparisons.

Agree, but I also don't think it's right to make fun of ads or magazines that are geared towards bigger women. A lot of people make fun of Lane Bryant.

I have been called a lot worse than that by guys and girls but I don't care.

Maybe it is just me, but I have never lost sleep or thought twice about when a girl or guy called me a name. I simply don't care.

The fact is that if some men base everything on looks, so do some women. And it's every single person's right to determine what qualities are important to them. I know that if LJ was ugly, no matter how much I liked his personality, charm and intelligence .. I wouldn't have married him.
Ten years ago, when I was 6'1", 165, I didn't have too many women that wanted to talk to me, as friends or otherwise.

Two and a half years and thirty pounds of muscle later, all of a sudden I was getting a looooooooooooooot of attention.

    So, basically, you're right.

    They are?

I'm not so easily influenced. You name guys like Mel Gibson Sexiest Man Alive everyday of the week and I'll still think they are ugly.

To me, it's all personal preference. I don't really give a who anyone else thinks is good looking.

Actually, I think the main benefit of the ring as it partains to me is that without it, I look 16.

No. There are not really an abundance of black women on tv(except for BET and UPN) and that is the type of women I am attracted to.

We see the "perfect women" supossedly being a blonde skinny white girl a lot and I am not attracted to white girls all that much.

Yea...but they don't wear Coke glasses...and they aren't that skinny! At least they're strong enough to run back and forth for 48 minutes and play basketball....

What is Tony Parker's IQ? I don't know. But seeing as he went to a "sports" high school and didn't go to college, he could very well be really stupid.

Intelligence isn't neccesarily measured by your level of education or whether or not you went to college...come on TimVp, I thought you were better than that. Parker could be a complete dumbass, but when I say I love Tony Parker or Manu Ginobili I'm just saying that superficially...it's not like I know them in person. If I knew them in real life, I could be attracted to them that's all.

Money is the bottomline. They are a business. Trying to make you believe they are doing something for the greater good is just part of the advertisement. Believe me, if they put 80 pound models in their ads tomorrow and they started selling more, they'd make the switch.

Well....they could sell a lot more if they advertised with 60 regular models...look at sales of Aveeno and Jergen's and Johnson and Johnson....I just think that you are looking at one half of the campaign. Sure money is a big part of it........it's a business waht did you expect? That they'd be ok going bankrupt? I am giving them props for doing something that not many other beauty product companies have done that's all.
