I never expected Auburn to win this game before it started, but I was super proud of the way they showed up and played.
I agree with the observations in this thread about the refs - they blew calls both ways, but I believe that Auburn got more good calls than FSU did.
The way I saw it happening last night was that after the first series of plays in the second half, Auburn's defense started playing the way they had all year up to this game...i.e., poorly and inconsistently. The lack of defensive intensity in the second half allowed Winston to get a couple of passes under his belt and that improved his confidence to the point that he could calm down. The FSU offensive line is going pro - every last one of them according to press reports, so I can't fault Auburn's defense for eventually breaking down against them, but the theory of 'get them to the last quarter and they will wear out' applied to Auburn's defenders
as much as it did to FSU's defenders.
Good entertaining game. The team was expected to win eventually did...but not before the underdogs made them scared as and looking amateurish for at least the first half.
Auburn's miracles did run out. No shame in that.
