The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have signed guard Jimmer Fredette. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not announced.
Fredette, 6-2/195, spent last season playing for the New Orleans Pelicans. He appeared in 50 games, averaging 3.6 points and 1.4 assists in 10.2 minutes.

I just hope that if he makes the team, he wont be taking mins away from mi boy Jsimms
And Green was an NCAA champ too.![]()
I feel like jimmer has been underdeveloped because he's white and not remarkably athletic. In the Spurs system predicated on making the extra pass I think this guy will feast let's be real.
I like the signing. Duncan Manu and Parker will be extra rested this season. Maybe so Diaw too. The Jimmer will add depth.
I can't tell you how much of a fan I was of Jimmer Fredette when he was in College. I started watching college basketball solely because of him. He was an absolutely amazing scorer -- just unstoppable. I've never seen a more exciting player in College BB or the NBA. And even though I had never rooted for BYU before or since, I'll always remember the feeling of being CRUSHED when Brandon Davies ruined the Cougars chances of winning the tourney because he decided to have sex with his GF at BYU and was suspended for the tourney. Funny that he ended up on the Spurs summer league team all these years later.
When Jimmer was drafted #7 overall by Sacramento I knew his career was doomed. The Sacramento coaches didn't want him and they told ownership as much before the draft, but Vivek drafted him anyway and the rest is history. He got limited minutes and was declared a bust before he ever stepped onto the court.
Then he gets traded to Chicago and it's the same story. Thibodeau doesn't play him because of his "defensive liabilities" despite fact the the Bulls had ZERO offense and they desperately needed him. Then he gets traded to the Pelicans and sees more limited minutes behind Holiday and Evans.
Finally this is his chance. My favorite player. The one who I was dying for the Spurs to get in the 2011 draft (I was hoping we'd trade Parker to move up and get him, but we traded George Hill instead to get Kawhi) and someone who I believe is the final piece to our championship puzzle. Now I know were going to win it. And I don't believe for a second that this is a non-guaranteed deal just for training camp. Because if it was Jimmer wouldn't have tweeted out that he's happy to be a part of the Spurs organization. He's going to be on the team. This is a dream come true.
Jimmer? is that you??

Coach Popovich for President!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I watched a lot of Jimmer Fredette while he was with BYU as well. The kid was an amazing college player. His size and defensive shortcomings gave me concerns about his game translating to the NBA, but I agree that the kid was incredible as a college player. He's fearless. He's a hard worker. He's got the intelligence and work ethic that I think Pop will appreciate. And as a shooter I think his offense should thrive in the Spurs system.
I agree that his confidence must have been shaken playing for Sacto and then Chicago. Going from being 'the man' to be an also-ran must have been tough on the psyche, and for shooters a lack of confidence is a bad thing.
My concern is that his career will go the way of Steve Alford. A incredible college player whose game was never quite able to translate to the NBA. But I'm all for him having a shot with the Spurs. As the 15th roster spot it might be worth the gamble. If he topped out at the Steve Kerr level of accomplishment in this league that wouldn't be too bad. Right now it's looking more like Steve Alford though.
And against the great 3&D Danny Green
Big College Star goes pro...

Adam Morrison was doomed from the get go. He's still probably the most un-athletic non-Center to be drafted in the lottery in the past 20 years.
