There I sat in the stands (Fresno) reading the program.

In lane five would be San Francisco City College. On the third leg of the 4x1 relay....Orental James Simpson. Yep, first time I became aware of O.J.Simpson. Little did I know he was the nations top JC running back.

Darel Newman was a short stubby white sprinter at Fresno State. He was going bald. So when the news came down that he had beaten the great Bob Hayes in an indoor 60.....stunned.

So the movie that night (Navy) would be...Woodstock. All the old timers got up and left, leaving all us young guys to enjoy the music.

Billy Joe was a 250 pound fullback out of Villanova, he played for the Broncos. He was as big as the defensive linemen. A monster.

Cassius Clay was a light heavy when he won the 60 Olympics. His combo foot and hand speed on a whole other level.

The first stud of the new AFL was a Dallas Texan RB named Abner Haynes. The guy could do it all...return kicks, punts, catch the ball and was a great runner.

There we sat cooking on a half tap of Orange Wedge watching Barbarella at the drive in. I looked over at Dave the driver and saw a turtle looking back, he just grinned.

Dock Boggs would take somebody like myself to even be aware of. Here we have a Appalachian banjo player who first recorded in 1927, I own those recordings. Shocked to find him on this CD.

Yep, he was the other RB on that Rattlers football team, Bullet Bob being the other. Paremore was a 9.4 cat, the Cards drafted him, bust. Al Denson was the other footballer, he had a good career with te Broncos. Alfred Austin (the othrer guy) was the first guy to beat Hayes, he was doing that as Jacksonville HSers. Not knowing they'd both end up at FAMU.
