No need to haggle just give me 219 million
Guessing grope plus a subtle jab that will go over Leonard's head.![]()
No need to haggle just give me 219 million
This is not true. He had a player option which he and he alone declined.
Paul Pierce and Scottie Pippen weigh in.
This was a great show and discussion of the medical situation. I am digging this take. I have been concerned Kiwi is not fine.
It's a shame the injury has created this rift but it's what happened and it ruined Kiwi's season too. He was on pace to be the MVP this year, now there's doubt he's even going to be alright.
Whatever caché the Spurs and Pop have would be severely undermined if they were to offer the face of the franchise a supermax only to get spurned.
Watching the Pop interview it’s clear he’s agitated with Kawhi. He’s calling him out. This offseason will be interesting. At what point will Kawhi even play. This season, next season, ever again. Hard to fathom trading a top 5 player, but you can’t let Kawhi walk without getting something in return.
Nice vid. Thanks.
Can't quote BatManu20's quote since he's quoting himself but here's the video
Right on! Thanks BAtManu20 and NASpurs for posting Charles and the real Jet give us props! Well deserved!
Thanks for that.![]()
Great video! Basically says Pop is right, if he is not okay to play now then it's getting near to shutting it down. No one wants to see Kawhi play hurt. As Paul and Scottie say ‘wait for the supermax’ next summer and don’t risk getting hurt further.

Sorry to say it but The Jump made, throught Pippen and Pierce, a good point. The IT story with the Celtics is gonna compromise the relationship between Players and Teams for a long time going on. Basketball is a game but is also an economical game, where the two parties make their best interest...and that came into play when you have to make decision on health.
its scaring when you have the suspect that teams are playing games with your health that are gonna compromise you future chances to make money.
IT will always in his life have that suspect...that AINGE AND THE BOSTON STAFF, INCLUDED THE MEDICAL STAFF, PLAYED THE DIRTY GAME WITH HIM, COSTING HIM MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.
One thing that works in Spurs favor, is that they always had caution with player's health and have always respected the player will. Thay made the same in the whole situation with Kiwhi and he and his agent knows that. The second thing that work in Spurs favor is that they are the only team allowed to give him the supermax.
The problem is and will be, going on from now, the confidence in each other.
Because Kawhi's image is rapidly passing from being one of the hardest players on court thanks also to his gim-rat mentality, to a crystal pussy with a low limit af pain suffering.
But one thing is for sure...in the new NBA, the passion for the game will come priority second, once and only once you completely cleared your priority first, that is make the most of your money given your ability and phisical condition.
In this sense I agree with Pippen and Pierce: in this situation for Kiwhi the best choice will be stay out and take the supermax or something near the supermax. Then you can jump and dive on the floor for the rest of your career, pain or no pain, no matter what.
The way it could work for the Spurs is that is giving them a lot of reasons to negotiate not only something less than the supermax but, most of all, to eliminate every chance of a player option during the course of the contract...bacause, if one thing is sure about the whole stuff, is that the player option that Kiwhi have after next season is the main reason why he and his agent have played all this story in the way they did.
The only people questioning his heart and dedication are the fans, media and all the Nancies around here.
I'm sure the Spurs have been nothing short of supportive with his decision, even if it does put them in a tough spot.
Everyone wanted the Spurs to come out and say SOMETHING, and now it's all being twisted around to suit personal agendas.
I think that would be a minority interpretation.
The Spurs are like E.F. Hutton -- understated, but when they speak, people listen very carefully.
The Spurs have spoken.
It’s basically what has led me to believe he has something still. He’s not right which is no less alarming bc he’s seeing the best specialists and has been given all possible leeway to follow his preferred treatment path and he’s still not right. It’s a shame if something like this ends up breaking what has been a very profitable partnership for both Kiwi and the Spurs. It would also be a shame if he’s never quite right after this injury.
the only certainty here is that there is no certainty here.
I wouldn't say "the fans" is fair...Only a few fans that love drama and morbid stories.
There are other fans that don't buy rumors and trust in what they have seen in last 6 years, a player who's a gym rat, unmatchable work ethic, with a burning desire to get better. A player who loves to play basketball.
"He signed the paperwork for the “max contract” that is technically for four years with a player’s option for a fifth and averages to $18.8 million per season. He shook hands. Posed for some quick photos. And then motioned to Taylor Cunningham, his former high school teammate and part of his offseason practice group.
They had to go. They had had another hour at the gym.
“I was scheduled to work out,” Leonard says, “so I did.”
Leonard did “celebrate” with his agent and close friends at a local steakhouse that night, but he politely cut the night short. He had a two-hour session in the weight room at 8 a.m. the next morning, followed by 2½ hours on the court at 11:30, followed by another hour or so of ballhandling and shooting in the late afternoon or evening.
“He’ll be knocking on my bedroom door at 7,” Cunningham says. “He’s like, ‘Get up. Let’s go.’ People think we’re going out, having fun, going to parties, going to clubs. It’s not like that. We’re working hard. We go to bed early.”

"I could be on the court for two hours and it felt like 10 minutes," Leonard says. "It made time go by." .."So many people care so much about being popular," says Jeremy Castleberry, who grew up with Leonard. "He never did."
As an unassuming sop re at Canyon Springs High in Moreno Valley, Calif., Kawhi declined to correct a reporter who kept awarding his points to a teammate. "Doesn't matter," Leonard told his mom.
As a senior at Martin Luther King High in Riverside, he blew off the Nike camp when his peers would have cut up their Kobes for an invitation. "I don't need the exposure," he told his AAU coach, Marvin Lea.
He ruled out UCLA and USC because San Diego State recruited him first."

This is Kawhi. He always has been the same guy.

And what they said? I didn't hear Pop saying Kawhi refuses to play. He said Kawhi isn't ready and doubt he would play this season.
Where's the crazy "go to LA" "but but his uncle..."
If he's not ready to play, he won't play. That's all.
I guess I should have said the "fickle fans".
People who have followed Kawhi's career closely know he is no prima donna or drama queen.
It's a strange and frustrating situation, to be sure...but assuming anything at this point would just be jumping to conclusions.
Of course, ESPN and the other outlets are jumping all over it and sensationalizing it because it is one of the rare "media-worthy" stories they've had about the Spurs since their last le.
the spurs traded up to take kawhi... a very incomplete player at the time, and within 3 years was DPOY and Finals MVP because the spurs put him in a position to succeed and grow without putting too much pressure on him. and as his game has improved, the team has made him more and more of a focal point on offense. they gave him a max contract at the first opportunity. they made the WCF this past season. i just don't see a compelling reason for him to try to force his way out.
sure, he can build his brand better in a bigger market, but that's never seemed to be that big a priority to him. he always hides from the spotlight and seems to be a win-first guy.
if he doesn't trust team medical staff because he's not feeling right despite having been cleared, then he has that right. but he should definitely make some public comment given the whirlwind of a story this has become.
