    apparently the ceasefire is one-sided

A source from the Gaza Emergency Services says an unspecified number of Palestinians were wounded by Israeli army fire in the Halawa area of Jabalia.

Earlier, five Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire in the Shujayea neighbourhood in Gaza City.

Hamas says it will delay hostage handover, after Israeli prime minister orders ‘immediate, powerful’ military strikes in Gaza

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday ordered the Israeli military to carry out “immediate, powerful” strikes in Gaza.

“At the conclusion of the security consultations, Prime Minister Netanyahu instructed the military echelon to carry out immediate, powerful strikes in the Gaza Strip,” the office of the Prime Minister said in a short statement.

Earlier today, Netanyahu’s office said that Hamas is in “clear violation” of the Gaza ceasefire agreement after returning remains to Israel that did not belong to any of the 13 hostages still unaccounted for in the enclave.

one side can unilaterally suspend the ceasefire, attack the other side, then declare the ceasefire back in effect

Israel’s military said Wednesday that the ceasefire was back on in Gaza after it carried out heavy airstrikes overnight across the Palestinian territory that killed 104 people, including 46 children, according to local health officials.

    is this a ceasefire?

At least 373 Palestinians have been killed and 970 wounded since the start of the ceasefire in October, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

In terms of Americans' separate favorable ratings of the two countries, the latest poll also finds a new high of 37% viewing the Palestinian Territories favorably, although still trailing Israel’s 46%. The 57% of Americans in favor of an independent Palestinian state nearly matches a reading from 2003 as the highest Gallup has measured.
Americans’ shifting sympathies in the Middle East situation this year are mostly driven by changes among political independents. By 41% to 30%, independents say they sympathize more with the Palestinians than the Israelis, whereas in all prior years, they were more sympathetic toward the Israelis, including by 42% to 34% last year.

Americans of all age groups have grown more sympathetic to the Palestinians in recent years. Among those aged 18 to 34, 53% say they sympathize more with the Palestinians, marking the first time a majority of this age group has expressed this view. Meanwhile, 23% of young adults say they sympathize more with the Israelis, a record low for the age group.

Views among those aged 35 to 54 have also shifted decisively. In 2026, 46% say they sympathize more with the Palestinians, compared with 28% who sympathize more with the Israelis. This is a near reversal of opinion among this age group compared with 2025, when 45% gave more sympathy to the Israelis and 33% to the Palestinians.

Among adults aged 55 and older, 49% sympathize more with the Israelis and 31% with the Palestinians, the first time since 2005 that less than half of older Americans have said they sympathize more with the Israelis. The 18-point lead for the Israelis also represents the narrowest gap in sympathies recorded for this age group.

Data from an internal Israeli intelligence database indicates that at least 83 percent of Palestinians killed in Israel’s onslaught on Gaza were civilians, an investigation by +972 Magazine, Local Call, and the Guardian can reveal.

Figures obtained from the classified database — which records the deaths of militants from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) — contradict by a huge margin the public statements of Israeli army and government officials throughout the war, which have generally claimed a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio of civilian to militant casualties. Instead, the classified data backs up the findings of several studies suggesting Israel’s bombardment of Gaza has killed civilians at a rate with few parallels in modern warfare.

The Israeli army confirmed the existence of the database, which is managed by the Military Intelligence Directorate (known by the Hebrew acronym “Aman”). Multiple intelligence sources familiar with the database said the army views it as the only authoritative tally of militant casualty figures. In the words of one of them: “There’s no other place to check.”

Israel has plans ready to remove Palestinians from the Gaza Strip but is waiting for the United States to figure out where to take them, the defence minister said Wednesday.

"There is no real solution for Gaza in the end without this migration," Defence Minister Israel Katz told a conference hosted by Israeli news site Ynet and newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.
The Israeli government "is organised and prepared to get them out – by sea, by air, by every way possible", he said.

The US embassy referred requests for comment to the State Department in Washington.

The Haaretz report said MBZ’s awareness of a Hamas threat had come from Sinwar himself, who in mid-2023 was frustrated by the lack of progress in negotiations for a Palestinian prisoner release deal with Israel.

Israel has trashed its international standing

Mike Huckabee of all people recently called Israeli settlers in the West Bank terrorists

British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announced a ban on imports of goods produced in Jewish settlements in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Tuesday. He called Israeli settlers "terrorists" and accused them of carrying out "ethnic cleansing" against Palestinians, in a strong escalation of British rhetoric.

The measures are intended to put pressure on Israel over settlement expansion, which the U.K. says is undermining prospects for establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel, known as the two-state solution to the conflict.

In a joint statementCanada and France announced similar bans on goods from Israeli settlements, with France also pushing for a European Union-wide ban.

Israel pressed the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday to issue an official denial of a report that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received an explicit warning about a major operation being planned by Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar shortly before the Oct. 7, 2023, attack, but Abu Dhabi declined to address the account directly.

Instead, the UAE Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying it would not comment on media reports or speculation about private conversations.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs underscores that the UAE Government does not comment on media stories or speculation regarding conversations between government leaders,” the ministry said. “The UAE’s engagement since October 7 was consistently directed toward de-escalation, regional stability and preventing violence.”

The ministry added that since the UAE and Israel established diplomatic relations in 2020 under the U.S.-brokered Abraham Accords, government agencies in both countries have maintained “open and direct lines of communication.”

“When necessary, all relevant intelligence has been and continues to be communicated between the relevant en ies,” the ministry said.

Wild that Sinwar was the one who tipped off the Oct 7 attack, apparently as a negotiating position

Haaretz is also saying that the attack was cooked up because Israel and Hamas had been close to a final-status deal but Netanyahu kept dragging his feet.

They also report that Hamas was willing to immediately release children and elderly hostages but that the Israeli govt wasn’t interested
