their philosophy department (one of my majors) was top notch too (and still is). ironically, some of the more conservative voices come from the research departments (especially engineering) and, of course, from the business department (i mean, phil graham's wife was a distinguished prof in the economics department before being placed on the Board of Regents).

Science departments are typically Conservative. Older demographic and immigrants. CS instructors at the University level here in California many were Arabic/Asian.
