I just prefer that if you're going to criticize a person, you should do it factually and based on something that actually matters. To me, asshole has a distinct meaning and you're still misusing it. If he were an asshole on the court, he would be a selfish, me-first player, who never passed the ball and made opponents and teammates alike mad at him (e.g.- Zach Randolph before this season).

Also, if he had zero talent, he wouldn't be in the NBA. I have about 0.1% more than zero talent, and I still can't becoming a top 15 3-point percentage shooter in the history of the NBA, as Bonner has. I know you feel that is his "one-dimension," but there are plenty of one-dimensional shooters in the league who play a lot crappier than Bonner. If you want an example, look no further than on the court during this game, with Peja Stojakovic.
I think you are making too big a deal out of this. I don't like Bonner's game. He is my least favorite player. I was exaggerating a little. Asshole doesn't have to mean selfish. It's a pretty loosely defined word when it applied as an insult. Bonner may be a nice guy, but, to me, he represents the worst aspects of this Spurs team. Slow, unathletic, defensively weak and one dimensional.
At least Stojakovic used to be good and has hit some big shots in big games. What has Bonner ever done to earn my respect?

Hey, I'm just responding to your posts. I prefer well-informed debate to insulting players because they weren't gifted with athleticism, or telling someone to "chop [their] head off", as someone did when they responded to your original post that set off this discussion. I really don't care to continue the debate any further, just pointing out to you that your arguments would actually be held in higher regard if you took the 10 extra seconds to say, "Bonner's lack of athleticism and strength in the defensive post are major problems for this Spurs team. I hope they don't resign him this summer," instead of "Bonner has the ugliest game in the league. I hope this asshole is gone next year."

Dude, it's a game blog. Short, frustrated outbursts are the norm. If you want a serious discussion . . . well, I would say go to another thread, but there are really not too many of those either. Like I said, don't take it so seriously.

Solid win, tonight. But, was it me or did Van Gundy repeat that he believes that the "Spurs are done" about 1,000 times tonight?

    Updated.

Spurs beat Hornets behind Parker for 3rd straight
    By Paul J. Weber

By the standards of this underachieving season for the San Antonio Spurs, coach Gregg Popovich said even back-to-back wins is something of an accomplishment.

Don’t look now, but the Spurs have won three straight.

Tony Parker scored 20 points and the Spurs extended their longest winning streak in nearly two months, beating New Orleans 102-91 on Friday night to sweep the season series from the Hornets for the second time in four seasons.

Popovich said Parker likely won’t fully recover from a nagging ankle and sore hip until this summer, and that his point guard is in no shape to play 38 minutes. But Parker did play 30 against the Hornets, shooting 8 of 12 of the floor and handing out six assists.

“It’s a real double-edge sword,” Popovich said. “He’s got to work to get in shape, but at the same time, he can’t exacerbate the ankle or the hip situation.”

Manu Ginobili had 16 points and Keith Bogans scored 15 for the Spurs. San Antonio is on its longest winning streak since January and turn around Saturday to face Memphis, which are also trying to catch the Spurs for a playoff spot.

New Orleans, meanwhile, keeps tumbling from the playoff picture.

Rookie Darren Collison had 32 points for the Hornets, including 16 in the fourth quarter. But the Hornets still dropped their fourth straight, their longest skid of the season.

“These last four games that we’ve been losing has nothing to do with our offense. It has everything to do with our defense,” Collison said. “I thought our effort was there today, I just thought they hit some shots.”

Collison had his second 30-night game in four games, and didn’t miss any of his seven shots in the fourth quarter.

Marcus Thornton had 18 points for the Hornets, but left in the fourth after taking a hard fall. He was diagnosed with an upper back strain and did not return, and was to be re-evaluated Saturday.

Losing for the sixth time in seven games, the Hornets (31-32) fell under .500 for the first time since Jan. 2 and fell 5 1/2 games behind Portland for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Climbing back won’t be easy. Still stuck without Chris Paul—who has watched his team go 6-11 since injuring his left knee—the Hornets have only seven of their remaining 19 games against losing teams.

David West had 22 points and nine rebounds for the Hornets.

“I just don’t think we’re in a rhythm as a team,” West said. “These games are being decided in three or four minute stretches. In those stretches we just have to play better.”

Tim Duncan had 12 points and rookie DeJuan Blair had 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs, who had all their starters in double figures. Matt Bonner added another 12 off the bench.

Like the Hornets, the Spurs can relate to a tough final stretch: 17 of their remaining 23 are against winning teams, and San Antonio has just eight left at home. But the Spurs are also trying to balance resting Duncan for the playoffs while trying to ensure they’ll make it there.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said before the game that March is a month where if they can find Duncan some rest, “they’ll do it.” Unexpectedly, the 33-year-old has held up much better than Parker.

So has Ginobili, who Popovich said has seemed to gotten some of his old lift and quickness back.

    Ginobili agrees.

“I feel like I can outsmart players and the shots are finally falling a little more,” Ginobili said. “Honestly, I can’t complain right now. I’m feeling good.”

NOTES: Thornton set the Hornets rookie record for 3-pointers in a season with 82, besting J.R. Smith’s former mark of 81. … The Spurs still have more than a week to bring their roster to the NBA-minimum 13 players after waiving Michael Finley, who signed with Boston on Friday.

Spurs defense was still bad. I thought the defense against West by Bonner was actually decent, but he was still scoring.

Guards seem to be torching the Spurs though. That combined with front courts that have been doing it all year is not great. But overall, the team looks better and they are usually throwing a solid 2.5 quarters of defense in a game.

sons before the game I predicted Peja to score 5 points on 2 of 10 shooting ... I obviously gave him too much credit, but it was close. he scored 3 points on 1 of 10 shooting.

So... anyone have a gif of Blair's breakaway tomahawk? It didn't even make the nba.com recap, nor did his block. ing Dwight picks his nose and he'll be on a top ten list for crying out loud.

Oh, and what does anyone think the % chance is that Ian and Hairston combine for over 10 min tonight? I'm going 20%, on the hope Pop doesn't drink one drop at all today.

What do you think about George Hill's defense? Was he the guy primarily defending Collison? I only got to watch some points of the game.

Anyway, a couple of games ago I said I thought I might be agreeing with those that said George's defense is a little overrated and he needs to bring it more consistently on that end. George has really been lit up by some of the better point guards this season. Deron Williams, Chauncey Billups, Steve Nash, Westbrook those guys have destroyed him at times.

I have been on Parker about his defense this season before I knew his was injured, but Tony usually can somewhat limit these guys when he is focused in on the defensive end.

I don't know if it's Hill just not knowing these guys enough yet but I'd like to see him move his feet more. It still seems to me like he has cement boots at times and struggles to keep up. I don't like seeing all these PGs starting to torch us too along with the front court players. The defense does seem better and that is good so we gotta keep improving on it.

I still don't like Bonner out there, but he might be Pop's new Finley .

Yep. I obviously picked the wrong game to make disparaging remarks about Matt "Hoagie" Bonner.
