congrats to germany. they were able to score first (even though i think they were very lucky, muller barely touched it and even though it went straight to the goalie he didnt react), and they were patient in defense and effective on the counter. the 4-0 score doesnt reflect the reality of the match because argentina had a long stretch of possession where they should have been able to tie it up. we just had horrible shooting, the only shot with any power to it went off mertesackers face.

that said, a big you to the ref. there were several challenges from behind and two kicks to the knee (with the ball on the ground) that should have been yellows. and they were all during that stretch that argentina was attacking and dominating the play. same with holland yesterday. our forwards were forced to play the ball quick because they werent getting any whistles, and the germans were content to break up attacks with fouls knowing they wouldnt get more than a caution.

in the end our inability to shoot better did us in. as for maradona, I think he should have made his subs earlier, other than that I dont have a problem with how he managed the game. we lost because we gave away an easy goal 3 minutes in and lacked the teeth to tie it up. its mostly the players fault, but its hard to get too upset when you consider most of them are under 25.

The problem was too many argentine shots from too far a distance and that is due to tough german defense.

Amazing all this Maradona love after he got absolutly outcoached and his team trashed with two players left home that could be a major difference maker in this game (Zanetti, Cambiasso).

I think Maradona could shoot the pope ("Hey, he was sitting in my spot...didnt know its illegal to do it, i apologize") and everyone would just laugh "aah, that was a typical Maradona"
