Poor performance by Arsenal, but at least they finally got a win. Arteta and Mertesacker will definitely strengthen the squad, though.
It's nice to see some experience out there instead of the youthful crap they've been sporting the last few weeks. The flow of the offense is much better with Arteta out there. Also having a big experienced body in Mertesacker in the defensive line is just a God send.
Walcott has been trash, that guy needs to get benched or something and his at ude last game is not helping matters.
I really want to see how this team is going to play in the UEFA Champions League with Gervinho and Alex Song and what kind of lineup they'll put on the pitch with all the players returning minus the injured ones. Not sure if I'm overestimating Gervinho, but his absence is really noticeable. This team doesn't have that many playmakers. He can break down the defense and score for himself or he can assist for a goal which is noticeably lacking with the way the team has struggled for goals this year mainly RVP imo.
Agreed, even if Arteta and Merte aren't exactly world class players, they add valuable experience.
Not yet, in my opinion, but it was only one game, and I think he will be able to help Arsenal in that department.
Arsenal's game is still lacking pace and fluidity so far - Wilshere is definitely missing.
But give them some time to work in the new players, let Wilshere and Vermaelen come back into the squad, and I think Arsenal will at least be able to play for the fourth spot in the PL and for the knock-out stages in the CL.
With the signings they made Arsenal should be able to challenge for the 4th spot, 1, 2 and 3 will obviously be taken by the two Manchester's and Chelsea but the other contenders for the 4th spot have all started quite poorly apart from Liverpool (to a degree anyway) so it's up for grabs.
Blues probe Torres over comments

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed the club are looking into an interview by Fernando Torres in which the benched striker appeared to criticise his own team-mates.

Torres, who has scored just one goal since his £50 million transfer from Liverpool in January, spoke to the official website of Spain's Primera Liga and appeared to hint at a lack of service from Chelsea's "older" and "very slow" players in an English translation that later appeared on his personal website.
Villas-Boas sought an explanation from Torres, who claimed his words were not translated accurately on his own website.
Chelsea are now seeking to obtain a copy of the interview in its original Spanish and Villas-Boas revealed he would warn Torres not to speak so candidly about the club in future if the translation did stand up.
"We are going in-depth to regain the tape of that interview," Villas-Boas said. "We'll see if things play exactly as they are in that interview. We want to go in-depth a bit more. Anyhow, it's one player's perspective. I don't think it's a perspective that the manager shares. I don't have to share my players' ideas sometimes."
Meanwhile, amid the controversy, Villas-Boas is hoping his decision to drop Torres for the 2-1 win against Sunderland on Saturday in favour of Daniel Sturridge will spark the striker into life.
Sturridge justified his inclusion with a crucial goal, and while Villas-Boas refused to confirm whether Torres would be reinstated to the starting XI for Chelsea's Champions League opener against Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, he revealed he expected the striker to benefit from his time on the bench.
"Any player that is not part of the squad, or not part of the selected players is not happy," Villas-Boas said. "I am glad that they are not happy because it means that maybe you can stimulate them to go one step further.
"Or maybe you can motivate them a little bit more and when they come back to being selected or to starting in the first XI they can still perform."

Gervinho just got his first goal for Arsenal, great ball and a good finish.
That's a problem with Mertesacker. He may be tall but he moves slow like molasses (talking about the Blackburn goal)
Great finish by Arteta there and Ramsey setting him up. 2-1 Arsenal
ing horrible lead lob pass by Gervinho. Totally blew the goal opportunity there.
RVP was ing open and Gervinho takes the shot. Jesus.
Blackburn smelling blood here.
