I guess if someone is relatively weak-minded and easily influenced by the media, then you suc b to it. But I actually look at people and figure out if I think they are attractive. Guys like JFK Jr. (RIP), Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, Ben Affleck, whatever can be shoved down our throats in the media night and day and if I look at their face and it's not appealing to me, then no matter how many people say it -- it's still not appealing. So you don't think that the same people we are conditioned to want to look like have any effect on who we are in turn attracted to at all?
It's like Manu Ginobili (who many women here think is gorgeous). I look at his face and find nothing attractive about it.
ok, i'm off of work.........i'll be back tommorow![]()
Are you calling me weak-minded?
I look at Jessica Simpson, who a lot of guys say is hot, and I do not really think she is hot.
I would do her for a mul ude of reasons, but me being attracted to her is not at the top of that list.
If the media has decided who you think is good looking, then I guess so.Are you calling me weak-minded?
But I don't think that's the case.
Are you conditioned because you watch, or do you watch because you're conditioned?
Woah...
Jessica Simpson has been around for years. No one was calling her hot until she lost weight that she didn't need to lose in the first place.
Yeah, but she wasn't 18 yet either, so we were probably just watching what we said...No one was calling her hot until she lost weight that she didn't need to lose in the first place.![]()
No one was calling her hot because she was like 15.
"Do I listen to Pop music because I'm miserable, or am I miserable because I listen to Pop music?"

Maybe She wasn't being called hot because guys did not find her "average" look and weight hot??
The ultimate truth in all of this, like many things in life, can be found in Gilligan's Island...
Who was the more popular chick on that show?
Maryann? The imperfect girl next door type with the sweet personality...
Or Ginger? The Cosomopolitan cover girl type?
Maryann recived more mail than anyone else on that show...including Gilligan.
Try a poll in this forum and see who wins it...Maryann will win it every time, at least with the men.
So back to the original point...women have a certain idea of what makes a woman pretty...and men have also have an idea...and the two are more different than people realize. It's not all about their weight.
That is all.
it's the caveman thing when you are looking for a mate...it's not tv, and it's not magazines.
for the most part? i think it comes down to fertility and virility.
the most basic insinct of survival.
that's why strong, healthy, and in shape are so attractive to the opposite sex.
then your sensible thought process kicks in and you think about if this newfound person can make you happy in your life.
She needed to lose that weight.
To me women are like shopping in a bakery.
They come in all shapes, colors and sizes but in the end they're all just bread and I like to butter them all.
I think cultural standards (media defined in ours) do play a role in establishing what people like. It is more complicated than just not liking a certain movie star etc. You can go to each culture and there are different things they find attractive. For example, in some African cultures, saggier breasts are what is considred attractive while in Weastern societies the opposite is usually the case.
However, by the same token, I think the people in said culture go a long way torwards defining what is displayed by their media, so it is a kind of chicken/egg scenairo as Spurminator pointed out.

Kori hates caveman theories, but they're true.
She lost most of the weight for Dukes of Hazzard.
, I forgot to mention that biology probably plays as big a role if not bigger than culture in defining what you are attracted to.
Come again.
Some African socities prefer saggier breasts than Western cultures. Thats not very debatable.
That's less true in America than just about any other country on earth...
I don't get that either.
What guys or cultures do not find breasts attractive?
I think he's talking about a society of Wheaties eaters???
Well yeah, you forgot the word "saggier" the first time you said it.
