Repugs don't care if the rest of the industrial world, and a good bit of the 2nd ranking countries, absolutely know that the Repug invasion of Iraq for BigOil started Middle East continuing conflagration, which other countries are trying help with, while the guilty "Christian" country-under-God tells refugees to off.

That's what Europe thought. Then they found out that 50%+ were totally illiterate and incapable of assimilation and the culture clash will rip the EU apart if Turkey turns the next 3 million sitting in refugee camps loose on Europe.

Even so, 1st generation immigrants rarely fully assimilate into the US, either.

2 or 3 generations into it, their culture and language dissipate. I would reject "incapable", as not supported, and then say "work at it".

My grandparents didn't speak German, and they were the 3rd generation into the American experience. I know a few 3rd generation decendents of mexican immigrants who don't speak spanish.

Let people in, and the same dilutive things will happen. it isn't magic.

As memory serves there have been several instances of second generation Muslim immigrants turning into home grown terrorists.

Seems to me, the moral duty to our fellow human beings here is fairly clear, especially for people who call themselves followers of Jesus. We have allowed other countries to shoulder most of the burden, and sit on our hands, because of what amounts to cowardice.

Look, I'm an immigrant. I welcome anyone who wants to be an American, adopt its culture, values, traditions, joins the back of the line, comes in legally and integrates. I don't want people who uphold ideas contrary to the cons ution - hate gays, think women are second class citizens, want to do us harm, etc.
