Pop just seems out of it tbh. Like he knows this team is and isn't going to freak out over their suckage anymore. Obv his wife has a lot to do with that too.
they thought playing 2 big line-ups will make them successful like every year![]()

Not to make excuses for the terrible effort on display, tonight, but the Pacers are an elite shooting team and the Spurs are without three young, athletic perimeter players. While also attempting to integrate so many new faces to the offensive and defense schemes.
This season will be a lot like last year with a ton of up and down moments. Hopefully, White and Walker can sneak into the rotation, stay healthy and provide the spark this old(er) group needs.
Also, they need to do something with that second two - way contract and dump Pondexter.
I agree that this was an embarrassing loss, though. Team needs better effort on both ends.

Forbes won is match-up going away today. Until that last stint with the starters, Bryn carried a positive plus-minus despite playing 22 minutes in a game where the Spurs were losing by 17. People need to get over their hate of the guy. He's NOT the problem. Dude is out there trying to give full-court pressure, getting his hands up and moving his feet. No, he's not a good defender, but a team full of guys who try all the time looks much better than what we just watched. With their offense, they don't have to be great. They just can't let everyone get wide-open looks all the time.
Obviously DeRozan, Aldridge and Gay have all been really good. But they make mental mistakes which hurt the team too. There's no question they are the reasons for the wins, but they aren't "100-percent with it". Maybe that's because they can't afford to give that much energy to following the game plan. But I think it's just mental lapses. Those will have to be cleaned up.
This is going to be like 2008-2011 when our defense was middle of the pack and we were fodder
like I thought, he still thinks his coaching can cover up weak defenders with no tools to defend
This is very depressing.
Think Derozan is going to be depressed?
I'll take the over on that.
Except back then we at least had 3 HOF'ers.
Wow he’s not upset blasting anybody like he’s done in the past. He mentioned defensively challenged.. hmmm. He is very obviously aware of their problems. I have a slight, very slight inclination to think a trade is possible... very slight
No real SF KNOWING by the time free agency started that they were going to trade Kawhi. It doesn't make sense. OG HAD to be in the trade, even if the Spurs had to give up a pick to make it happen. They just can't afford to play in the league without one. No one in their right minds should think that was a good idea. But that's no excuse for the guys on the court to play like this. Guys like Beli, Bertans and Forbes are earning money because PATFO signed them rather than a legit defensive wing. They need to start doing their jobs better.
That Quincy Pondexter would turn back the clock, revert to the player he was before two knee surgeries, missing two whole seasons and being cut by the lowly Bulls?
The Spurs used to be very good at mining the lower leagues and undrafted free agents to find diamond in the rough. Now, they can't find even a fringe, developmental SF to bring into the program. Instead, cutting loose Blossomgame (for good?), bringing in a combo forward (that isn't a good fit on this roster) in Cunningham and a guy on his last legs in Quincy....
Middle of the pack is unattainable by this iteration of the Spurs.
funny with this roster, there's no chance we're not one of the ten worst defenses in the league
Guys like Paddy and Pau got juicy contracts too, that limited them in signing different players. They will need a trade and I wouldn’t include Forbes who was the only one playing with effort and is in a very small contract...
, middle of the pack is an improvement over historically bad defense.
At this point, I don't know if popovich is purposely sabotaging the franchise on his way out or if he actually thinks he's that great of a coach that can take this squad far in the playoffs. I don't know
Shut up. Mental illness (or clinical depression) doesn't work like that. Yes, small things can set you off occasionally, but most often it is a build up of unresolved negative emotions, feeling or anxiety.
Not losing a NBA game in a blow out. Pretty sure he's dealt with that plenty of times.
Anyways, Spurs need to start looking for a defensive wing and a developmental PG, quickly. I'm not going to jump the cliff, but this presently constructed roster is in need of athleticism and defense, badly.

I honesty think if the Raptors go to the finals he will kill him self. He must be dying on the inside.
Not even trying to be funny.
He left a team he never wanted to leave and is stuck in Basketball purgatory while his former team is on pace to have their best season in franchise history. Absolutely nothing wrong with what SAGirl said
This team just didn't seem to bring it with the energy along with ball movement and defense. SAS got beat by their own game. LAL will be in SA on Saturday for blood and revenge. I think that the Spurs played down to the Pacers in their recent road loses and record. Hopefully they will bring it again against the Lakers and play compe ive basketball. Whew! At least the Rocketts are 1-3! GSG!!!
Pau's deal would have been fine had it just been for two years. If he were an expiring, you could just shrug your shoulders and go "well at least he's not taking up space after this eyar". But that extra $6.7 Million makes him much harder to trade, and it's JUST big enough for PATFO to consider bringing him back next year. But considering what Gasol does and where the team was when they signed him, paying him wasn't the issue. It's a flat-out lie that his signing had anything to do with Dedmon or Simmons, and folks who repeat that at this point are just trolls. But Pau's deal makes the Spurs getting cap space next summer harder, and that's really the first time it's going to actually limit them.
Patty's deal sucks mainly because of how much worse he's been playing. It wasn't out of line for the player he had been, and as the cap grows, it will eventually look like an MLE deal. I didn't like it at the time, but I could see how it could work. It just hasn't worked, though, and Mills has been so bad that it's hard to imagine the team being able to trade him without having to give up a decent pick. Teams are often willing to take on one year of salary for minor compensation. But that fourth season makes them much more wary. Therefore, Patty's tradeability is more directly tied to his performance than in Gasol's case. Unlike Pau, Patty isn't even situationally good. It'd be really hard to sell a team on giving up 2019 AND 2020 cap space for a guy who's play is sinking like a stone.
humiliating loss. probably the main reason is the lack of energy after the LA drama win...but the fact that our defense is putrid is so clear...that any team with decent coaching is gonna take advantage of it.
Tonight it was too easy for the Pacers...they frankly won on the road by 20 points with no effort made. That's unacceptable...they had open look after open look with no effort to have it, they were going to the rim for uncontested shots thanks to defensive miscommunication... its something we can't afford...looks that we have no defensive coaching...that's unsustainable, considering its already discouraging that our back court players are often so smaller or so less athletic than their opponents that they can't contest their shots (Mils and Forbes against Oladipo and Evans, but also against Collison and Joseph, were miss matches every single possession).
Frankly hope it was just lack of energy...but I'm skeptical, because also our young or third string players (Bertans, Metu, Pondexter) have looked lost and with no idea to how to play the game...
maybe jut one of those nights, but maybe its already time to be scared...
It was a ugly home game. Expect more games like this with the current healthy players on the roster.
Mills, man I like the guy but it is tough watching him get minutes if he can't consistently put out games like he did in Lakerland.
The frontcourt outside of Aldridge well... Gasol is just physically stuck in mud. But the rest is just going to have a difficult time adjusting to the team defense with the back court looking like traffic cones.
Still they shouldn't get any worse on defense so...hah.
November is going to be a long month.
Spurs are hot trash. They should be 1-3 right now if not for the fluke win vs LA tbh.
