Peavy is pitching again on Sunday. Tomko hasn't been bad for us either. Maddux will come through. I hope they don't pitch Young.

Young is pitching tommarow I think.

The padres have it far from locked up.

    BUT.

They are playing the now suck ass Brewers

Peavy going on 3 days rest? Or resting him till game 1 vs Philly/New york.

    I'd rest him.

You don't want a rookie pitching game 1. Ex Cardinals 2000.

Do NOT, trust, nor depend on Brett Tomko.

Take it from someone who rooted for the guy once....

That was a feeling I haven't felt while watching a baseball game since 2002. What a rush! I mean, damn! They had opportunities to blow that game open, leaving the bases loaded twice, but damn did the pitchers step up against a of a lineup!

Great run this year to clinch a spot. Now, let's clinch the division and the top overall spot!

    Byrnes has the D-backs' backs
    Byrnes has the D-backs' backs

    By Ryan an - SportingNews

Justin Upton, the Diamondbacks' 20-year-old rookie, was ready this time around.

He had seen this scenario before: sixth inning, one out, bases loaded, tight game, Upton at the plate, Scott Munter in from the Giants' bullpen. Munter had won the battle the night before, when Upton watched a first-pitch strike slip by, then grounded into an inning-ending double play. The D-backs eventually lost, 2-1.

But Upton, thanks to a little prodding from teammate Eric Byrnes, was ready the second time. "I told him last night, 'You don't want to take that first one in a spot like that,'" Byrnes says. "Tonight, he ripped the first pitch for a double. That's just a classic example of the adjustments that he's making, learning when to be aggressive and learning when to home in the strike zone."

That 2-run double was followed by Conor Jackson's single, which brought home Upton and Byrnes, who then chatted up Arizona's young star-in-waiting all the way back to the bench.

"He just kept saying, 'Big hitter right there,'" Upton said after the D-backs' 9-4 victory. "Those are the kind of things we do to pick up each other and keep each other confident."

    Leading man
Eric Byrnes has been the unquestioned offensive leader for the surprising Diamondbacks.

    STAT TEAM RANK*
    Runs: 98 1st
    Batting average: .290 2nd
    Hits: 172 1st
    Home runs: 21 2nd
    RBIs: 82 1st
    Stolen bases: 45 1st
    *Among regulars

Byrnes has been a little bit of everything for the season's most unlikely playoff contender -- coach, leader, clubhouse glue guy, cheerleader, cleanup hitter, leadoff man, left fielder, right fielder, center fielder ... just to name a few.

After a disastrous 2005 season spent with three teams, Byrnes has found a comfortable home in Arizona, reviving his career with a solid 2006 and then putting together a career season to show the way for a D-backs team that leads the N.L. West by half a game despite an extremely young lineup.

    Unexpected? To you, maybe.

"I've never put limitations on myself," Byrnes says. "It might surprise everybody else, but it doesn't surprise me."

Was at the game tonight, went to the team shop and bought a hat and Byrnes jersey.

Was sitting on the first base side and was surrounded by Cubs fan.

Actually had three fellow Cardinal fan temporary DBack fans around me and we had an absolute blast giving Cub fans the business

Great job D Backs, 2 more!!!

How exactly were four fans who's team was not in the playoffs giving anyone "the business"?

Wow, congrats, your ace did what he was supposed to do at home.

Winning the next 3 will be a lot tougher without a Cy Young candidate on the hill.
