His shot isn't really falling, but he's taking more of a facilitator role on offense so he's not putting it up a lot. He's been best when he tries to get to the rim but seems to be deferring to the other guys a bit.

Still, the offense looks more cohesive when he is out there and he is doing good work on defense, which I'm pretty sure is the role Pop has carved out for him.

He shot 2-6 including 0-2 for 3pts, 2 assists, 2 TO. Myles Turner was the stand out, with kemba. 15 minutes of play

I'd say that's the definition of not lighting it up. But I'm not worrying about summer games in China.

What are the match-ups? Where can I go to see the brackets?

It seems like Australia is playing well from bits and pieces I'm hearing on this forum? Is Mills playing great? If so, why the heck can't he seem to carry it over into the NBA season? He always seems to do great in international compe ion, and I don't get why, as he's likely to get even more attention from the opposing team's defense playing for Australia than he does by opposing defenses in the NBA.

It's easier to follow now, because they are out of pool play, and into the bracket.

The international game is different. Patty does better, and always has, because there are fewer long, rangy defensive athletes to bother him. He can get more square looks at the rim.

Australia has a pretty legit starting lineup. They've got a good squad and are definitely capable of medaling, or even winning the gold if they catch a few breaks.

USA/France will be interesting. USA is better, but France is capable of winning if the gringos are off their game tbh.

It's too bad his game hasn't translated as well in the NBA but isn't his issue in the league more than just long, rangy defensive athletes?

You'd be surprised at what a tenth of a second can allow, in terms of a good look at the rim. In FIBA, most wing players who are 6'6" have about a 6'6" wingspan. That guy isn't going to bother your dribble or your shot as much as a 6'6"/7'1" wingspan NBA terror.

Mills’ game translates way better with the FIBA rules than the NBA rules. He’s always a beast when he plays for the national team. He dropped again 30 pts against us today.

Still, isn't a 7'1" wingspan the exception, not the norm in the NBA? And most guys who will guard Mills at the perimeter in the NBA will probably have a 6'4" to 6'8" wingspan. I mean, a big deal was made of Westbrook (who is 6'3) having a wingspan of 6'8". Then, there are guys like Curry and Kyrie Irving who have 6'4" wingspans. I agree with you to a point but there has to be other factors involved. It's interesting to think about.

He’s the one who really killed us. We expected Mills and maybe Ingles to be great, but not Baynes and especially not behind the 3pts line. Gobert couldn’t be blocking the paint to avoid Mills going to the rim and defending Baynes from downtown at the same time.

7’1” may be the exception, but guys with long wingspans in the NBA aren’t any more. Just look at our roster. DJ is 6’5”/6’10”. White is 6’5”/6’8”. Lonnie is 6’5”/ 6’10”. All are hoppy and laterally quick. We have 3 guys like that on our roster. Outside of the US, there probably aren’t 3 guys in the entire FIBA World Cup like that.

Yeah, I agree. Outside of the 4th Qtr explosion in their win, his FG percentage was pretty bad in the two games against the USA. Didn't have very many comfortable looks.

I think confidence plays a role in it too. Look at White and the way he looked on the Select Team, where he knew he was clearly the best player on the team. His comfort level was different than what its been on the Senior Team.

That could have been a reasonable explanation if Patty hadn't been beasting over teams with plenty of NBA talent like France, Lithuania, Canada, US, etc.

Patty probably faces tougher defenses in FIBA than in the NBA, tbh. Not only because rules and smaller offensive room makes it so, but also because opposing defenses focus on him more.

The most likely explanation for Patty's better performance with Australia is simply the bigger role, tbh.

Serbia is going to massacre poop. He couldn't beat Jokic in the NBA and he certainly won't be able to do it in FIBA per par.

Just as likely is the possibility that Pop's system stifles Patty's potential.

He's not stiffling Patty. If anything, he's OVER using him, especially as a creator. Patty is best as a catch and shoot option.
