Sad thing is (for Suns fans, anyway) is that this was the Suns best defensive performance of the season, but with nobody to rebound the missed shots, it just didn't matter. Suns played very good tonight, but the Spurs beat them by exploiting their biggest weakness.

Once again, Pops shows why the Spurs are 3-0 in Finals series under him.

When you need a move, he makes it.

Unless Thomas comes back for the series, if the Suns meet the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals, the Suns will get swept. The Suns, unless they are making every shot on offense, just can't make up for their inability on the boards. No matter how inovative, D'Antoni can't make a guard box out a forward or center.

Congrats... Hope the Suns, with Kurt Thomas, battle you in the WCF!
or you can say despite being outrebounded by 20 boards or whatever it was, the suns were still in the game. i think this year's wcf will be much tougher than last years

Suns 3 point shooting cooled down in the 2nd half.
    7 of 16 overall. 5 of 10 in the 1st half.
I'd say the defense (with the exception of the layup drill by Nash) wasn't too bad in the 2nd.

This game doesn't mean squat unless we beat Houston tomorrow too. Duncan will probably stink tomorrow (though not his fault) and we shouldn't even dress him. It'll play right into the Rockets' hands to have a low scoring grind it out game with Yao dominating.

I say we Phoenix it up and try to run them out of their gym. Most of our smalls didn't expend much enegry today anyway, with the bigs doing the heavy lifting.

Look at it this way. At least Rasho will be baby powder fresh for the Rockets tomorrow.

Um, I don't. As long as there is a day off between games and Manu's health improves just a little between now and then, the Suns have zero chance to beat us. We'll rebound and defense them to death. It's no accident Nash got all those lay-ups today. We let him and Amare have their way with us last year too. All we try to do with them is take away their threes and their transition points and to basically make Marion useless. They function best when Nash is dishing dimes and getting everyone going. When he's their best scorer and the other guys aren't getting involved, the whole team stagnates, especially on defense.

The Mavs are the only team in the West that can take us to six games. And the Pistons are the only team in the NBA that can beat us if things break right.

Suns can't play this good of defense and still maintain their offense in a seven game series. It's an either/or and they can't win a 7-game series vs. a complete team like San Antonio without both.

They'd have to capitolize on a night where they not only force the Spurs into dozens of misses, but also be able to shoot lights out enough to overcome their inept rebounding.

With a healthy Kurt Thomas, yes, they'll be more capable than last, but without him, they'll be swept. You can't defend what San Antonio did to Phoenix tonight. You can't. If they double Duncan or Nazr while trying to box-out, then someone can grab the rebound untouched. If they try and box-out straight up, they'll lose the one-on-one box-out 80% of the time.

Suns only hope of the Finals is Kurt Thomas and that's not something you can cling to right now.

So long as Pop keeps sending two and three big bodies to the offensive boards, I really don't see a way for the Suns to win the series. Especially not without Thomas.

Everybody has career games against the Suns.

    Manu, Nazr......the list goes on.

No, but Nazr matched his career high of 30.

Miami or Detroit could beat the Spurs but shouldn't in a 7 game series. Denver n Dallas are still alive too.

Kurt is not done for the season, but is done for the regular season and likely the first round.

First round is the return date right now.

    But who really knows...

What about Amare returning? If they both are out you might not get out of the 1st round.

I'm not comcerne about any team, but San Antonio, Dallas or Detroit.

They've won 14-15 vs. Teams not namd above, all without Amare and Thomas.

They are 1-2 vs. the teams above without Amare and Thomas.

Obviously, a playoff team will be a struggle, but the Suns aren't in trouble until the Conference Finals.

Just got home from the game, friggin awesome. Finally broke even on vbookie too. Oh yeah and i got one question if anyone else was at the game, There was a point in the second quarter where D'antoni got a technical and Pop Freaked out on Ginobili. What the did ginobili do to deserve an ass chewing like that?

I was wondering that myself. The only thing I saw was he missed his rotation on House and came close to fouling him when he shot the ball. I didn't look over at Pop at that moment, but they came back down the court, a foul was called on the Suns and D'antoni got the t. Johnny_Blaze was with me and I think he said that Pop immediately screamed for Barry off the bench after Manu missed the rotation on House. Pop was definitely chewing Manu a new one.

Well, sometimes all you need is a good rap in the teeth... which is exactly what he got later. That was nasty. When they showed Will Sevenig on the lighthouse checking out Manu's mouth on the bench and it was all bloody... blech.
