This was upgraded to a Flagrant 2, right?

Well here's the specifics on that:

A flagrant foul-penalty (1) is unnecessary contact committed by a player against an opponent.

A flagrant foul-penalty (2) is unnecessary and excessive contact committed by a player against an opponent. It is an unsportsmanlike act and the offender is ejected immediately.

The offender will be subject to a fine not exceeding $35,000 and/or suspension by the Commissioner.

Well here's the specifics on that:
Yes they did make it a flagrant 2, I think. Although wouldn't a foul first have to called in order to "upgrade" it?

Artest...it's a privilege to play in the NBA and get paid millions. Artest is lucky to be in the NBA, not vice versa...if he can't handle it, GTFO, go play in the CBA, and let a non idiot into the league in his place. The league has no patience with him because of his childish antics of the past...He is most definitely getting suspended because of past behavior and I've got no problem with the league doing it.

In fact, he should automatically get a 5 game suspension if he even starts to get that crossyed look on his face...He has no god given right to play in the NBA, the NBA doesn't exist as a charity group for headcases to deal with emotional issues.

If he can't figure that out, tough , 99
% of the rest of the players in the league can... Personally I enjoyed the fact that the league suspended him...I applaud them for doing it...Artest needs to be a choirboy and the poster boy for good behavior for the rest of his career...If he feels he is being unfairly treated then he needs to get his ass out and go play somewhere else.

BTW, the beauty of all of this is IMO, Manu wasn't trying real hard not to clip him upside the head...Not only is Manu a flopper supreme(although he does get hit hard often IMO)...but he's also one of the best in the NBA at the "inadvertent elbow"(see the Nuggets series from last year). I don't doubt for a second that he knew who was guarding him...Sucks to be Ron Artest and not be able to control your temper or emotions...

    Good job Manu.

Usually suspensions will come the day after the game, this one came 2 days later.

It did come the day after the article written by that chick in Sacramento suggesting the Kings resort to physically hurting the Spurs in order to gain an advantage. Perhaps Stu Jackson read that and thought, "I better let them know that's not okay."

    Just a thought.

whottt, I don't think he tried elbowing him at all.

why the would Manu start something with Artest??? He's not that type of guy, and if he didn't cover it up well enough Artest would kick his ass.

BTW, what are you referring to from the Denver series?

The NBA office is closed on the weekend (saturday/sunday) which is why it took 2 days to suspend both Artest and Haslem.

Manu cranked Greg Buckner in the jaw on the way to the hoop. If he can intentionally hit two guys like that in the face that are behind him while he's going the other direction with the ball in his hand, and still score the basket in both cases, he deserves to get away with it.

I actually think it will be interesting to see the Kings offensively without Artest. I thought they forgot a lot of what made the Kings good offensively. I expect to see a lot more Bibby and a whole lot more involvement of Brad Miller in the flow of the offense. The Spurs have a much more difficult time covering that than they do Artest one on one.
Yep. They need to get the ball back in Peja's hands.

Buckner deserved that , all of those Nuggets deserved it. Especially K-Mart and Melo.

IIRC, Buckner had already been called for one flagrant against Manu by that point.

I've never felt a need to defend Artest, but IMO this is a terrible call.

Fine his ass if you need to punish him, but a suspension is sooo way overboard.

However, at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter as the Kings never had a chance of winning this series.

I am referring to the fact that anyone who slapped Manu around in that series ended up getting an elbow up their nose at some point in that series...the more physical they got, the crazier his arms got.

If my word is not good enough for you, take George Karl's word for it...or better yet take KMart's...and BTW, if anyone doubts if Manu takes some hard shots(inspite of being a flopper) they also need to take KMart's word for it...Kmart flat out admitted they were hitting him hard to send a message last year, he also admitted that it didn't work. It was in one of the post game interviews and the comments should be online somewhere.

Do you honestly think Manu is worried about some guy trying to pick a fight with him? You must never have watched the way he plays...I don't think he actually wants to get into a fight, but he's not afraid of pain(in fact I think he kind of likes it), and emotionally baiting some chump plays into his hands and makes him more effective.

If Artest picks a fight with him Artest's career is ovah...

So yeah...I think Manu's arms are intentionally crazy sometimes, particularly when he is involved in a physical matchup. Those elbows of his are bony and sharp, and elbows like that don't feel good when they are getting stuck up your nose.

Eddie Johnson, the city of Phoenix, the city of Denver, the city of Seattle, the city of Sacramento. If he were black he'd be the new logo for the NBA.

Good point, but you're making it sound like everyone who ed with him got it, when really only Artest and Buckner did.

Melo and K-Mart, Jerome James, DANNY FORTSON, why didn't they get an elbow?

No I don't think Manu is worried about someone getting in a fight with him, and yes he plays fearless, and likes pain...but at the same time, he is injured all the time.

I admire that about him though, it's exactly how I play. I'm always trying to throw my body into people, especially those big guys down low. It works very well, and if you notice, Tony does it a lot too, which proves that it works.

Watch him against Detroit, he threw himself into Rasheed so many times. It just creates a larger distance from sheed's hand and the ball.

    Great strategy!

I just don't think you can say that Manu really pops people on purpose, he isn't that type of guy. Think about it, the chances of popping only 2 guys in so many games? How many games does Manu play a year?

No, I do, and honostly I think it was a natural movement.

Contrary to this statement, as a result of watching Manu play so many times, the way his elbow moved back is the same way it does every single time he drives. It's his natural movement, his arm sort of rocks back as he begins to make his way to the basket to pick up some momentum.

Actually he did get KMart in that series...I think he got Camby too. He didn't get them like he did Buckner but I am telling you he knows exactly what he is doing with that style of play.

No I don't think Manu is worried about someone getting in a fight with him, and yes he plays fearless, and likes pain...but at the same time, he is injured all the time.
Yeah he gets some hard shots, he also throws himself down on the court 15 times a game. His style is destructive...but he usually doesn't feel it till the after thw game.

Um...You act like Manu is a saint or something...

That mofo tries to create fouls out of nothing, he gets into peoples bodies, he plays physical...

2 years ago that mofo went into Shaq's body after Shaq pulled down a rebound and was trying to rip the ball out of Shaq's hand.

Remember that play last year, I think it was against Denver, or maybe Seattle, where the game was over and he went up and swarmed the guy with the ball then tried to draw a foul?

Manu tries to bait guys into taking shots at him...he tries to do it to get fouls, don't act like he's above deceptive play...he does it 50 times a game. And yeah...he's has his own little way of sending messages to guys getting to physical with him...and once they do start getting physical with him his flops start paying off.

Tim Duncan said it best...Manu's crazy. Crazy like a fox.

Either he knows what he is doing or he is constantly the benficiary of poetic justice....aint no justice in the world ever been that poetic, that often.
