I think the Mavs just aren't comfortable being the favorite. The city of Dallas is the same way. Any time they're the favorite, there's so much more dread about the possibility of losing than there is confidence or excitement about the possibility of winning. It seems like that's how the Mavs have approached this series. Maybe they'll be better off once everyone has given up on them.
