i think they would definitely keep him. Even though his play calling is weird sometimes, it's a huge leap forward on offense.

They absolutely keep Gilbert if Strong says. That's not even a question.

The problem is on defense; Charlie's specialty that he claims is fixable but is not fixed.

    Defense played great today.
If that's great D we have incredibly low expectations.
The scheme was good, the execution was horrible. We got beat on the same basic little two man pick twice not due to their great execution, but our huge F ups. We still miss easy tackles and still take horrible angles. Coverage was better, pressure was inconsistent.

We played one safety deep almost the entire game that was not red zone so we did prevent long plays. We still have serious problems in the 2ndary.

No way we get a pass for this just because it was not horrific. The defense is not in anyway fixed. The main step forward was the scheme IMO. The dropped interceptions were maddening. Just like Blake said, Mahomes threw a number of balls up for grab when we had two men on one for them, and could not come down with a ball.

You hpod the 2nd highest scoring offense to 30 points, not bad at all. Maybe not great, but I would take that all day everyday. There are still holes to fix and Charlie took way too long in taking over the defense, but I've seen good improvement the last couple of weeks. Hope it keeps trending that way.

Score is not always a great indicator of the way a defense plays. The fact that the end zone is only 15 yards deep is a great help to us. Honestly Mahomes looked like the walking wounded today which I believe helped a lot.

I think the plan plan on D was good but my God we have to tackle and take the ball away.

Well they finally throw out of the 18 wheeler package, and what do you know, a TD......well, except for the stupid chop block. That penalty was a 14 point swing. Still, at least the passed the ball for once.

You have to remember Buechele is a true freshman. It is what it is, it appears the playbook is slowly opening up (at least some throws over the middle lately)

My impressions of the Tech game

    1. Defense showed improvement but still has a long way to go.
    2. When you have a beast like D'Onta Foreman, you must feed the beast.
    3. 18 Wheeler package must go, and never come back.
    4. Malik Jefferson had his best game of the season.
    5. Our DBs didn't look lost and were flying around making plays.
    6. Buschele to Collin Johnson will be to stop over the next 2 years
    7. I'm starting to see hope for Strong.
    8. Our OC sometimes loses sight of the fact he has one of the top players in the country at RB.

    2 & 8 are the same lol.

That was weird play calling in the 4th with about 7 minutes left where they ran Buechele and then passed twice.

Don't lose sight of the fact that Tech isn't very good. This should have been a 68-28 type of rout.

Dont lose sight of the fact that UT is not very good either. We don't pull blowouts on teams that have an offense. You guys still ran 100 plays. And we ran the ball more than pass.

Iowa St. still stands as our best game by far.

Not even a question. Sterling has made this team very compe ive on offense. The last two years we couldn't even get a first down. Sterling has a lot of growing up to do but he is maturing as a signal caller, next year he will have more plays in place for this offense.
