we aren't getting JR Smith IMO..
if we can simply get Pietrus or Azubuike with a backup guard like Delfino, or even get Barry back, then we're still one of the top contenders..
Maggette would just make us the #1 team IMO..
J.R. Smith
Ricky Davis
James Jones
Bostjan Nachbar
Maurice Evans

My Fav is JR Smith. But I doubt that we have a chance to get him!
B. C. Delfino
C. J. Hayes
D. R. Davis
If the Spurs were interested in Pietrus I think we would have heard about that as much as Maggette by now and they have to know Denver will match any offer Smith would get (If he proves still immature they have a great trade asset in February)
if those are our 3 options, then that's terrible for a starting job..
I haven't heard anybody having an interest in Pietrus, other than minimal hype from Detroit..
we'll hear more about the other FA's once the higher profile guys like Maggette and Posey are out of the way..
I'd be surprised if the Spurs had no interest in Pietrus..he fits our team needs, and he's one of the best available options..
Pietrus, James Posey, James Jones.
If the Celtics get Maggette, then I'd guess the Spurs would target Posey.
I want them to make a run at JR Smith, but I think they would settle for the level of Delfino, Mason, Hayes, etc.
Do you remember the movie The In-Laws with Alan Arkin and Peter Falk? In one scene they are about to be executed by a firing squad and Arkin says:
Sheldon: OK, what's Plan B.
Vince: Plan B? There is no Plan B.
plan b...re-load and do it again...we are a top five team in this league, we lost this season because we couldn't hit shots and manu wasn't healthy...the addition of another "role player" may or may not help this...ask yourself this, will any of this additions even start...yes they will replace barry or who ever else doesn't come back but you have to know we are pretty damn good as is.
that being said...we at least have to try and get the best players.
no thanks.
what about andres nocioni
Highly doubt it, and doubt there would be an even agreement in case there was interest.
looking at the raps roster I think they will match for delfino because they have only 1 other sg on the roster that being A Parker who is 33 and in the final yr of his contract and will go over sees after this yr
Does this not sound familiar? I mean, once again, look at the draft. If we on SpursTalk are mentioning the player, that probably means we are no where close to getting him. We have said: "I haven't heard anything about this player so we probably won't get him", that means that is exactly the direction the Spurs will go. Spurs = Opposite of what we think...
Did you not watch the Finals this year?
Posey gave Kobe trouble every time he was on him, he hustled harder than ANYBODY on the court, and he hit some BIG TIME 3's.
He's definitely Spur-ready.
Spurs Plan B:
- Resign Finley
- Resign Barry if he's still available
- Save Money
- Pray that Mahimi and our first round pick develop into something in limited minutes before the season's end.
Not that I want it to be like this, but I can definitely see it unfolding like that.
Reasons Maggette SHOULD come here: 1] We start him at the #2 and then can let the best 6th man since Havlicek do his magic. He wants to start. In Boston or Philly he won't. GS will probably not make the playoffs without Davis and how vital is Maggette in that shot-happy offense. 2] The Spurs give him the best chance to go deep into the playoffs every year. 3] We have the best weather during the basketball season and 6 mill goes much further in SA than any of the other compe ive cities.
That being said Maggette may have " Steven Jackson syndrome" aka 'Speedy Claxton disease"---take the most $$$ and never play on a truly compe ive team again but I'm happy. PLAN B should be NOT to let Maggette stretch this out beyond Wednesday. Since our offer can't change--- why would he stretch this out? The Spurs should not become some pitiful suitor, who for weeks, goes begging "Please marry me, please marry me!" without an answer. If we play that game we take the chance of not getting what we need. By Thursday we should offer the MLE to either JR Smith, Mason or Azuibuke etc.
sit out TD,TP and Manu for the year or at least 80% of the year and get the 1st lottery pick....and piss off the rest of the nba.
Kori, if the Spurs obtain neither Maggette, Posey nor Smith, would you consider it a sufficient offseason were they to sign Delfino and a couple others on that level? Would you like their chances next season, assuming they could stay healthy?
I read a blog the other day and it said that Posey's agent said they've narrowed down the teams to Boston and San Antonio.
Now, I know it was just a blog, but I'm guessing the person that wrote it must have read that information somewhere.
All of you that mentioned tanking or Ricky Davis should die...seriously. JR Smith gives me an uneasy feeling too.
I say split the MLE between Pietrus and one of the available bigs...Mason or Najera.
