Excellent signing. The team got younger with a guy that's got all-round skills and he can shoot from the perimeter. A prescious commodity when talking about the Spurs.

This should leave enough money to sign at least Matt Barnes.

Oh good lord. WTF is up with some of the fans on here.

Maggette would have been nice, but only if he wanted to win. He chose the money instead, so that alone should tell people he wasn't a good fit for the Spurs.

Mason is EXACTLY the kind of player who can fit in well with the Spurs - defensively minded, can score off the bench or as a starter. Seems to be low ego. I'm happy with this signing.

So there goes all our MLE.

Happy we got him but that means JR is out the picture for sure, unless he has been signed.

    Oh well. Typical Spurs offseason.

Isn't there some kind of NBA rule that limits the number of 'swing' players who measure 6'4' to 6'7" on each team. If there isn't, there should be. I mean we are loading up and cornering the market.

Or perhaps Pop is going to emulate Nellie at Golden State and forget about rebounds.

If they did that I would consider it a successful offseason despite the loss of getting Mags. However it never seems that this guy is on the Spurs radar.

Do you ever make coherent statements? Type a real sentence please.

Maggette wasn't coming. Simple as that. It was a pipe dream, that while fun, shouldn't make people cry. Who else are they going to chase? An RFA so they can then lose out on anyone that could possibly bring anything? That would be smart. How about: offer Smith the MLE while the Nuggets wait a week to match and then all the UFAs we were targeting are now off the shelf. Pure genious.

The signing is typical Spurs and they have been interested in Mason for more than one season, so I don't think he is merely table scraps. It's apparent that his workouts showed the spurs something more than many of the other wings on the FA market. Also, they are interested in 2-year deals.

Since GS was sixth in the league in rebounding and the Spurs were somewhere in the 20s, it might be a good idea if rebounding is really what you want.

Mason doesn’t come with the sex appeal — or the scoring average — of Maggette. He is, however, coming off his best season as a pro.
What sex appeal do McDonald and Monroe think Maggette has?

Apparently labeling Maggette as spurfan's wet dream wasn't too far off in their case.

At the very LEAST Mason should replace Brent's 3-point contributions, but I expect him to contribute even more than that....especially coming off a pretty promising season last year. He should definitely help with the scoring droughts that have often occurred during the championship years and in-between when 2 of the "Big 3" (or the "Big 2 before Manu's arrival) are resting. This signing shouldn't have been a big shock to anyone IMO.

I hope the team can and will re-sign KT and wrestle M.B. away from the possible lure of the Lakers and Clippers (ESPECIALLY the Clippers who have nothing but money now, no direction, and Barnes' former teammate in B-Diddy now). Yet I remain very optomistic.
