Manu was the best player for the Lakers in Game 1 of the WCF. No reason for Kobe to dislike him after that game.

That's harsh. Manu was injured at the time. And he is now going to have a surgery.

But back to the original topic, I think Kobe respects Manu a lot. I think there was an interview posted a few weeks ago with Kobe when he talked about being on good terms with Manu, saying he was a friend or something like that.

So the story does not surprise me.

I remember back in the 2006 world championship they were asking Dirk why the US lost or something like this, and he said "cause Kobe wasn't here, there would be no doubt with him here".

As much as Kobe is sometimes hated by the media and fans he seems to be well liked by a number of players, especially his generation and especially international players. He and Pau have gotten along very well, and even Nash often speaks in admiration for him.

I found this youtube clip of one of the interviews with Kobe from the Olympics with an Argentinian journalist on Manu's forum today. Kobe speaks Spanish pretty good. His part is at .29.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OGIWd-qS2g&NR=1

First the interviewer asks how Kobe is doing. He says good. And the interviewer jokes that that's bad for the Argentinian team. Then Kobe says, "Argentina is really strong. Ginobili is one of my favorite players." Then he is asked, "Is he better than you?" Kobe says, "I don't know." LOL. Funny stuff.

    Manu answered TMTTRIO's question:

I heard rumors somewhere that Kobe came by to check on you after the game between Argentina and the United States? Is that true?
    Yes, is true.

I know you lost most of your luggage. Have you gotten any of it back yet? Was your bronze medal in one of the bags?

Yes, I got it back the following day. Of course the bronze medal was in my backpack, always with me.

I think the vast majority of players respect Kobe as a player and know and acknowledge how great he is. But, I think there are plenty that just think he's weird. I remember a couple years ago when the Suns beat the Lakers in 06 I believe with all that Raja-Kobe stuff, Nash said as much. Not many question Kobe's talent or even desire to win (minus that one half against Phoenix), but Kobe is still a polarizing character because of his personality and things that have happened in his life, especially the public stuff with the Colorado incident and his riff with Shaq. I think to truly appreciate Kobe, you have to try to distinguish him as a player and as a person and separate the two.

Someone else also asked Manu in the same chat about Kobe:

En algunos foros se dice que algunos de los jugadores de USA, fueron a saludarte después del juego en el que te lesionaste… ¿Eso es cierto? Si lo es… ¿Quiénes fueron?

Vino Kobe a saludarme y a ver como estaba, un lindo gesto, pero que en el momento por la calentura no supe apreciar.

He says that Kobe did come by to check up on him, to see how he was doing, which Manu thought was a nice gesture.
