    Thunder Dan,

I've always felt the same way. Our political system is obviously just a big old F up. Controlled by lobbyists, executed by politicians who are in most cases shady or slimy at best, corrupt in the worst. Marred with antiquated rules which stifle true debate and postive discourse. Excessive pandering to special interest groups by both sides.

I'm of the opinion the longer you are in an environment as flawed as the US political system, the more indoctrinated you become in the slime and sleaze that unfortunately define it. From this sense, I could just as easily argue that more experience in Washington is just a bad thing. I really think this is why Obama is in a position to actually be President. Many tired of the same old ,same old. Let's try to find someone who hasn't been corrupted yet. Perot seemed on the verge of pulling it off sometime back...

Knowing how to play the game and playing the game are two different things.

Like it or not, no one candidate is going to get into office and "change Washington". Sure, there will be some different initiatives that are pressed based on the candidate elected, but there's actually a better likelihood of that taking place if the person knows how the game is played.

Experience in Washington D.C. does count for something. Having said that, picking a candidate with fresh ideas that can work with the system to get things accomplished counts for much more.

I honestly think both McCain and Obama have the ability to work within the system to get major components of their agendas/platforms pushed through.
