Considering AIDS was still at the time almost exclusively in the gay community, I'm HIV positive that Magic Johnson got all HIV-ed up from gay sex. And then once the cure finally came out, he bought the cure.

We don't actually know when Magic actually contracted it. I thought the only reason it was discovered was when he had some routine bloodwork done.

Eazy E, the stories say, kept his diagnosis a secret and/or found out himself too late, at which point he already had AIDS.

A person can have HIV and never develop AIDS. A person can also be diagnosed with AIDS (which has to do with whether your T cells drop below a certain level) and then be placed on medication and recuperate to a relatively healthy life, although there is no cure for AIDS currently.

When Magic Johnson was diagnosed (1990?) things were still very unknown. The only treatment for HIV was AZT, and it had a low success rate. Now there's dozens of HIV meds, many of which are keeping people alive for decades. However, the meds are very hard on your body, and have a myriad of other complications. So there really isn't any sort of "cure."

The acquired part of the AIDS acronym refers to the HI virus that is acquired thru blood or other fluids that leads to Acquired immunodeficiency sydrome and thus the diseases you can get like lymphomas, pneumonia, influenza, and various other infections and diseases that end up killing you.

Just for the record, I think whatever treatment Magic is getting must include HGH. His head is becoming Barry Bondsesque.
