Can kidney failure be a sudden thing, or does it have to evolve over time?

My only experience with it is that my father died from kidney failure and it was just under 3 months from the time he was diagnosed to the time he died.

I know diabetics can have kidney failure, but that's as far as my knowledge goes.
As always, a human loss of this type puts these games that we enjoy so much, in their proper perspective.

It can occur suddenly, but is more likely to happen gradually over many years.
Since the widespread availability of dialysis, it's rare that someone dies of the kidney disease itself (although not rare to die of one of the many complications).
that's scary.
I'm going to have to look that up now for more information.

truly sad to love someone so long and then poof there gone. its gonna be tough. I have only known my wife a total of 11 years and I don't know what I would do with out her.
