That's what I thought until Gore won one and I did research.
I give Gore some amount of props...at least he knew better than to sign us onto the Kyoto payout...er treaty.

Hint: Find a bunch of people willing to blow themselves up or murder civillians and Olympic athletes, get them to do it, then say for 3 billion a year you will get them to stop doing it....

    Instant Peace Prize

Then once you get the 3 billion a year stick about 20% annually into your personal bank account, by guns and bombs with the rest of it, blame Israel for the poverty of your people and get the idiots to start blowing themselves up again unless you get more money.

So now conservatives are writing off Nobel Laureates?

I'm more and more convinced that the majority of conservatives would vote for a pair of tennis shoes if endorsed by the GOP. They are that stupid.

Could anyone PLEASE tell the would-be self-proclaimed "conservatives" Nobel Laureates crowding Spurstalk to actually READ the list?

NOT a SINGLE Peace Nobel in it.

These folks have actually accomplished stuff in Chemisry, Physics, Medicine.
    Check that out.

Tennis shoes can't redistribute our wealth.

I'll say it once again, divide the country in two...let each side have their own president and see which one lasts 10 years.

There is preciously nothing insulting in the term.

    No ....

#1. Did you actually read their letter?

#2. Do you know what McCain and OBama's stances are on these issues of research?

McCain has the more progressive stance...

A point lost on every signee to this letter, when they suggested the lapse during the Bush admin as a reason to support Obama.

    I agree McCain's no Bush.
And it is also not true that the US lost an edge in these 8 years in some of the fields.
Nevertheless, it is just plainly impossible for an intelligent individual to support even a decent man of the same party that ruled in the US for the last 8 years.

    Don't get it wrong here.
I actually know some of the subjects on the list.

I think it is true, particularly in medical reasearch..it's the A#1 problem I had with supporting Bush in 2004. It's also something I really like about McCain.

The Stem Cell thing isn't even an issue anymore, Federal funding or otherwise...not than McCain and Obama have a different voting record on it anyway.

What these guys are attempting to claim is that McCain is going to cut research spending while Obama isn't...there is not a shred of evidence to bear that fact out and what evidence there is points to McCain being more likely to spend on research than Obama...who other plans for that money....like giving everyone health care.

The motivation behind this is entirely political gain...these guys simply think the US dollars will flow to them more freely under Obama than McCain....and they think that because the dollars didn't flow freely under Bush.

Disagree. I think the field in which the US is really behind is energy.

The Stem Cell thing isn't even an issue anymore, Federal funding or otherwise...not than McCain and Obama have a different voting record on it anyway.

Stem Cell research hasn't stopped. California, for one, is putting huge amount of money on it. Blue state, republican governor, last time I checked.

What these guys are attempting to claim is that McCain is going to cut research spending while Obama isn't...there is not a shred of evidence to bear that fact out and what evidence there is points to McCain being more likely to spend on research than Obama...who other plans for that money....like giving everyone health care.

I think that research spending will be cut no matter who's elected. Simply, the US cannot afford the type of spending of the 90s anymore. In general, it's going to be more military cuts than research/health care with Obama, more the reverse with McCain.

The motivation behind this is entirely political gain...these guys simply think the US dollars will flow to them more freely under Obama than McCain....and they think that because the dollars didn't flow freely under Bush.
Most of them ARE doing no science anymore and they don't give a damn about money.
Believe me, these people play it at another level.

    Absolutely.
And I can trace it when the oilmen pushed for this Alaska's woman to be on the ticket.
And you don't have to be a Nobel Laureate to understand why.

Um...no offense, but you evidentally don't have a clue about the Stem Cell debate.

It was never about if States could or would fund Stem Cell Research...

It was about whether or not the Federal Government should fund embryonic Stem Cell Research. which included the production and harvesting of embryonic stem cells...and the destrction of human embryos in the process.

That's what the Bush admin was against...the Federal government funding the production and harvesting of embryonic stem cells which would result in the destruction of actual human embryos.

It's not an issue anymore...we now have the technology to extract embryonic stem cells without destroying the embryo. [/debate]

I think that research spending will be cut no matter who's elected. Simply, the US cannot afford the type of spending of the 90s anymore. In general, it's going to be more military cuts than research/health care with Obama, more the reverse with McCain.
McCain favors research and development of all alternative energy solutions...Obama does not, he has a more limited stance on both nuclear and coal than McCain.

Obama also wants to cut Military research and defense spending, the sector that produced the most scientific advancements of the 20th century...McCain does not.

McCain is also a pilot, like most of the guys that pioneered our space program and considers space research a key element to our National Security...Obama thinks sucking Iranian is a key element to our National Security.

Most of them ARE doing no science anymore and they don't give a damn about money.
Believe me, these people play it at another level..
Believe me...these guys said not one ing word about McCain's plans in their letter...what they said Obama...who makes promises he can't keep every time he opens his mouth.

Obama isn't going to be funding for research if he truly intends to implement a National Healthcare plan...
