I really think the reason is everyone knows the guy and he's run for president twice. I think the public, right or wrong, feels like they have an understanding who he is. Palin on the other hand wasn't even vetted by her own party that well, much less the public. Fair or unfair, that's just the way it is. If Palin somehow becomes a force in the Republican party and runs for President or the Senate later on, I don't think she would be under the same scrutiny as she was this time because the public would have a better feel for her off the bat.

Palin on the other hand....well, to put it bluntly, imo, her selection is the second most important reason McCain is going to lose this election (first reason being a Republican during an economic crisis....guilty by association with Bush Doctrine).
