I didnt even read the article. What was Dana's beef?
Nobody is or got cut. This all got taken care of.
I didnt even read the article. What was Dana's beef?
Here is what I think happened from what we know so far.
We will never know for sure the entire story.
Something happened with a contract for his likeness rights and Fitch didn't like it even though his managing team did. Which is his right.
Fitch turned is down but somehow it was communicated very poorly and Dana went balistic.
Lorenzo stepped in and everything got ironed out.
Its amazing how fast this happened and went away. This is due to the closeness we still have to these fighters and how they aren't so insulated from the fans/media like the rest of the sports. I wonder how often this happens in other sports....probably daily before the trade deadline and all during the off season.
That is great that this all worked out, losing Fitch over this would have been ridiculous, i hope all is good and this is really my only major issue with Dana. The man is pure and simple a bully. Yes it is great all the man has done for MMA but you can't pull stunts like this now that the UFC is in the public eye so much, because Dana embarassed himself and the UFC the last 2 days.. If the UFC was mainstream like the NBA or NFL, those off the wall uncalled for remarks would have been on ESPN all day long.. That is not good for the UFC or MMA..
Losing Fitch over this would be bad, but Cain Velasquez...now thats ridiculous!
Its over and done with in less than 24 hours....shows how minor the problem really was.
IMO losing Cain would have been worse than Arlovski and Fitch. Cain is a premier blue chip.
Arlovski...I understand. They aren't going to overpay like the oakland raiders so at least there is a reason for it. Fitch...sucks bad but lets not forget how little people really think of him...just dig up some old articles from his fight with GSP.
Cain is a top top top up&comer. The entire future of MMA HW's revolve around Cain, Carwin and Lesnar.
Besides...I like djohn...wouldn't want the dude to kill himself!
jeez thats kind of a dark emoticon...![]()
Haha, thanks Evan.
I'm issuing a homework assignment...everyone read this^^^^^^^^^
Ok Evan, I attempted to read it...This quote kinda confuses me...
"It was the videogame, and it was exclusive. It's going to forbid you from doing any other type of [videogame] deals without the UFC saying, 'It's OK.'
So is he saying if Thiago Alves per say signed on to replace Tom Brady and be the Patriots new QB, or if he decided to take Pujols' spot on the Cardinals, or if he decided he wanted to take Tony Parkers' spot on the Spurs and play PG, he couldnt be in a videogame? I dont understand what other games any fighter would want/get offered to be in.
- in context -
What he is saying is contrary to popular internet forum/blog belief the UFC doesn't make you sign a bunch of exclusive contracts for merchandising but in this case the UFC was asking for one as an independent stand alone contract for video game likeness that didn't affect any other merchandising or fight contracts.
They were telling him...this video game contact is exclusive so if you ever leave the UFC and another MMA company makes a video game, you can't do it unless we give the green light.
Good summary. It's funny how everyone "knows" how these contracts are written, but you see that they are apparently being well compensated for it and even give non-exclusive rights.
Did anyone actually catch the pay for Fitch? Dana said he got 169,000 for 87. His reported salary you ask? 30,000. That's 139,000 dollar difference. Not much of a difference.
Not trying to be a nazi, but the phrase is actually "per se" as opposed to "per say" -- meaning "by itself."![]()
hmm so not definite?
Dana should realize something, because it seems like he wants to invent new rules in business. Like he thinks some fighters are obligated to d a certain thing only because they ow to the organization called UFC.
It is definite now everything got worked out...this is a minor issue that got blown way out of proportion. It was an entire day of wasted arguing.

Its cool...I think I knew that at some time lol.
Oh my, a lot can change in 2 yearsVelasquez, one of the sport's rising stars, clearly is on the outs with White. White said Zinkin wanted standard language that is part of every UFC fighter's contract removed from Velasquez's deal.
"Can you believe that?" White said. "Chuck Liddell has that language in his contract. Randy Couture has it. Anderson Silva has it. And Cain [expletive] Velasquez, with two [expletive] fights, wants us to change it for him? That's [expletive] nuts. He can get the [expletive] out.![]()
