Considering his experience, his familiarity with the system, and how well liked he is by his teammates, Finley is at the very least a great bargain for 2.5 mil this year. Compare with the salaries of some other guys around the league:

    Wally Szcezerbiak, 13 mil
    Nesterovic, 8.4 mil
    Jerome James, 6.2 mil
    Mike James, 6.05 mil
    Matt Carroll, 5 mil
    Damon Jones, 4.46 mil
    Greg Buckner, 3.76 mil

Why do people act like last year was Fin's fault? Then they act like Pop will play Fin no matter what. Last year in the WCF Pop HAD to play Fin. Just because Fin could not be Manu and beat the Lakers by himself does not mean he alone cost us the year. Believe me when I say that Mason in the same situation last year would alone not be enough to beat the Lakers with a hobbled Manu.

Would you then speak about Mason as you do about Fin, get real.

I'll give Finley props to playing very well so far. I will not give hm props for being in shape - that's what he's supposed to do. It's his job.

I was a bit surprised at Timvp's earlier comment about rumors of Finley being a malcontent. Frankly, I've never heard that and would be surprised if that were true. The problem in Dallas is that his salary, versus his production, became an albatross around the Mavs.

Finley became the scapegoat because of his enormous salary and his apparent unwillingness to take a lesser role, by coming of the bench. By no means, am I a Finley apologist. Quite the contrary. However, I don't know if that makes him a malcontent.

All that said, I'm a skeptic. I don't want to load up the appreciation wagon for Finley until he goes an entire season (including playoffs), performing at the level that he is now.

I've been a Finley supporter since he's came to Spurs. And yes he has been inconsistent.....for most of his time in SA.

However, I believe the role he's in now will be helpful to the team at the end of the season and in the playoffs. Also, the development of Mason and Hill will need to continue as the season goes along and I believe their development will help Fin get better shots.

It's good to see him play well so far and he's a professional and good teammate!

Finley's always had a strict workout regimen so I'm surprised by the out of shape comments. He sounded disappointed in himself for his performance last season. Whatever the reason you can see the hard work over this past summer has paid off. I don't know many 35 year olds who would rededicate themselves like he has but it's been good so far.

The defense has improved but I'm more impressed with his dedication to rebounding, passing, moving without the ball, and he's even attacking the basket some more. He's trying to do the other things even if he's not shooting well or not involved in the offense. You can't say that about him last season.

The biggest thing is that he's attacking the rim. He is mixing it up. It's easy to play defense on a player who never drives the ball.

No need. I simply believe that was an excuse because they wanted to unload his exhorbiant salary for luxury tax relief. Cuban LOVES all his players. It hurt him deeply to part with Findog - especially seeing him go the his arch-enemies - the Spurs.
