Cavs face tough test in San Antonio

(Sports Network) - The Cleveland Cavaliers hope to bounce back from both insult and injury tonight when they finish up a tough two-day trek through Texas by visiting the San Antonio Spurs.

The Cavs, who are in the midst of a four-game road trip, were waxed in Houston on Thursday when Yao Ming scored 28 points and pulled down eight rebounds as the Rockets trounced the Cavs, 93-74.

LeBron James finished without an assist for the first time in his NBA career and Cleveland lost defensive specialist Ben Wallace to a broken right fibula in the game.

James and Mo Williams scored 21 points apiece in a very uncharacteristic offensive performance for the Cavaliers, who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end. Cleveland shot a season-low 33.8 percent from the floor to finish with a season-low 74 points.

Wallace broke his right fibula in the second period when he and Yao went up for a rebound in the middle of the lane. Yao's foot landed on Wallace's right leg, and the Cleveland forward played through the pain before exiting. He is expected to miss the next four to six weeks of action.

"It happened in the second quarter, but I don't know the exact play," said Wallace. "I thought it was a calf bruise and it would let up but it never did. It is broke. I saw the white line in the x-ray. Yao kicked me and it was a freak accident. I definitely will be back for the playoffs but hopefully before that."

Wally Szczerbiak added 11 points for the Cavaliers, who fell to 18-11 as the visitor on the year.

Cleveland will finish its trip with visits to Atlanta and Miami.

The Spurs, meanwhile, earned their fourth straight win on Wednesday in the second test of a three-game homestand when Tony Parker continued to step it up in Tim Duncan's absence, notching game-bests of 39 points and nine assists as San Antonio pulled away late to rout the Portland Trail Blazers, 99-84, at the AT&T Center.

Matt Bonner totaled 15 points and nine rebounds for the Spurs, who have won four in a row, six straight at home and improved to 20-7 in the Alamo City. Michael Finley chipped in 13 points and Kurt Thomas ended with eight points and 10 boards.

Duncan has missed the previous two games with right quad tendonosis, The veteran is considered day-to-day and hopes to be back tonight. In other injury news, star sixth man Manu Ginobili, who has been out since the All-Star break, is expected to miss another 10 days or so with a right ankle injury.

The two teams split the home-and-home season series a year ago. San Antonio snapped a four-game losing streak to the Cavs in the second matchup, a 112-105 win in Cleveland on February 13, 2008.

Just don't know about this one. I agree with all the posters who said Tim should take another night to recuperate. One game is not that important right now. That being said, it would shut some of the naysayers up with a win over the team with the league's second best record.
    Spurs win 94 to 91

Lebron will come out with the flaming eyes of Serpentor and have a big game.

I still think we will win. I expect Mason to have a big game. Fine dog!!!! Keep em coming.

Season high in three pointers tonight!!!!
I agree and I hope Mason has a bounce back game from the last two games.

Also, I have a feeling that TD will play tonight. Since it's a later tip....8:40 or so....

The Spurs need to make Le Bron work on defense if thy want any chance of winning this game. Whoever LeBron guards should be as aggressive as possible.
