Nazr really impressed me tonight, he was a monster on the offensive boards, and he made some pretty nice passes downlow.
The Spurs were outrebounded 6-1 after Nazr went out with a little over three minutes to play, including three offensive rebounds that contributed three points, coincidentally the final margin in the game.Rasho did his job.
Where in there did Rasho "do his job."
I've already outlined why Nazr should start - he's a better complimentary player to Tim, and Rasho plays better at the offensive end when he doesn't have Duncan to share space with.
Kori and LJ have touched on it here on the forum before, and I vehemently agree with them - give Rasho more minutes when Tim is *off* the floor, and you'll make Rasho a better player and the Spurs a better team.

too many Spurs fans on Rasho's nuts thats why
GoSpurs, incorrect. He was in there most of the time against at least one of KMart or Camby.Nazr played mainly against Denvers backups and had a great game.
Quit hating, and recognize Nazr is our center of the future (and should be present).
Start Nazr, bring Rasho off the bench, FSP pitches in to give Pop some end of game offensive play sets, and let the rings start coming in.
If Nazr can put a string of games together like he did tonite, Rasho will be forced to the bench.
Even before this game, I thought Mohammed was our future center, but won't and shouldn't be until next year. Then, the question will be, how effective is Rasho off the bench? Will he need to be traded?
I hope he's effective off the bench and we won't need to trade him. But Nazr was a steal. I live in New York - I thought so when the trade happened.
I ain't hating on Nazr. I love the way he is adjusting to the system. If he wins the job from Rasho, I am all for it. But to think that 30 minutes (so far) in the system and a questionable groin can withstand the rigors of starting minutes at this point in the season is wishfull thinking at best. I only wish the best for this team...the championship is all that matters. Other than most I support all players on the Spurs that hustle and grasp the system. If you cant see that Rasho understands his role nothing I write will change your closed mind. Besides its not who starts the game its who finishes that really matters, and as long as the player contributes I dont really care as long as the Spurs win playoffs games.
Even though Pop makes mistakes (like tonight) I trust that he knows better than most whats best for the team (2 championships is proof enough). After all he's not going anywhere and unlike everyone else that posts here, he's the only one that's getting paid to captain the Spurs.
But if you really need to about something feel free....I've said my peace....and my playoffs seats are paid for. And I believe in the Spurs (all of them) do you?
AHF has a better chance of marrying Pop than Nazr does starting over Rasho anytime soon.
I think it's too late in the season to change lineups, maybe we will see next year if Nazzi wins the spot over Rasho in training camp. But we def. are going to need Nazi for the playoffs. I like what I saw from him yesterday even though he looked like he was only 70%. I'm salavating at the thought of the damage that him and Tim could do together. "Tim shoots the banker, misses, but there's Mohammed with the offensive rebound and the and 1!" I like the sound of that!
GoSpurs, I never said Rasho didn't understand his role. For the billionth time:
- Nazr's game is a better compliment to Duncan than Rasho's is. He hits the offensive glass, makes good passes in the post, and scores off garbage buckets, perfect compliment to Tim on the low block.
- Rasho has played significantly better over the last year and a half when he's not sharing the floor with Tim. Facts are facts, and even Kori has acknowledged it.
I think Rasho understands his role perfectly well. I just think Nazr can do a better job of doing it than Rasho does, particularly lined up next to Tim.
LJ - you better hope it doesn't happen, or else those first round playoff tickets are mine![]()
I would start Nazr only against specific teams for now. If we were playing teams with Centers that were much more athletic and smaller than Rasho, I would have Nazr start. For example, I would play Nazr against Amare because Nazr would do a much better job than Rasho. Rasho is not quick enough to guard Amare. Nazr is. Look at what Lorenzen Wright has been able to do to Amare.
You need a more athletic player to guard centers like Amare than Rasho. Rasho is good at guarding the bigger Centers like Yao, James, Olowakandi(does he still play?).
As slow as Rasho is, he is a decent shotblocker. But maybe it's because more guys are going to the hole on Rasho because of his "soft reputation"?
But if we were to start Nazr for good, I would not do it unless we moved Tim Duncan to Center and Nazr to PF. Nazr is a tremendous player, and in my opinion would be more beneficial if in the starting lineup, but guys are more likely to go to the hole on a 6-10 pf/c than a 7-1 Rasho simply because Rasho has tremendous wingspan.
Look at Amare...teams are going inside on him because of his height.
If I was Pop, I'd play Duncan at Center and Nazr at PF.
When Pop becomes convinced the Spurs' D will be better with Nazr starting instead of Rasho, he'll start.
Not before.
duncan plays more like a center anyway. powerforwards are becoming more like tall shooting guards that play a little bit post like KG,dirk. Duncan's game is completely different from theirs'.this becoming more evident to me evryday.
Duncan is a center.
Starting is irrelevant. When Nazr starts closing out games with Duncan that's when you'll know he's arrived in Pop's eyes. Spurs haven't had an effective big to close out games next to TD since Robinson retired.
Agreed on that pnr.
If Manu and Tony are out tomorrow but Tim plays, we might as well treat it like another scrimmage and see what Nazr and Tim can do to close one out.
Personally I'd love to see him start, just to see the same (what he can do).
Where are you now? Your boy makes Rasho look like HOF!!!![]()

No way
Rasho will be the starter
Pop only make a change when one guy is injured
The last season when TD was injured, Pop donīt move Manu to starter for Hedo, when Manu was the 3rd better player
If Nazr learns to stop reaching and simply works on getting position like Rasho does, I can see him starting. Out of Rasho, Nazr and Rose, Nazr's game seems to benefit the most from Duncan's presence; his lack of range dictates that he simply hang around the rim and wait for the defense to be distracted by Duncan or a driving guard. It's not going to be all that great for spacing when we play teams with superior halfcourt defenses, but we have three other guys who can provide that.
Nazr needs an offseason with the Spurs. As a midseason trade, this may cost us a lot. It would have been a much better offseason acquisition. I know it might not have been on the table then, but it just sucks ass as far as a midseason trade goes.
I must have watched the wrong game, the Hawks made a run when Nazr either missed or turned it over in like 5 straight possessions, there in the 4th qtr. I don't like this guy, he shoots without any kind of balance, he looks like he is falling down all the time, he is better at put backs off offensive rebounds than Rasho, that's for sure, but last night he bobbled or lost every pass he got. Except for that one move which he made that was negated by the shot clock running out, he looks out of sync big time. He is a better rebounder than Rasho and quicker and maybe teamed up TD he could move to the hole better for easy layups, but without TD in there he is in my mind a bigger liability than Rasho because he forces shots, something Rasho hardly ever does.
Rasho still needs to come off the bench
And who will (can) start?
Nazr
Maybe you forget that Rasho likes to play good only when Duncan is hurt![]()
