While Finley's a pro and a contributor, I don't think his jersey will be retired in San Antonio. Dallas, where he was an all star and stayed longer, should retire Fin's jersey. But there is some bad blood with Cuban, so who knows...

When the Spurs go 10+ years without even making the Finals people won't wonder why Bowen's number is hanging in the rafters. Of course he belongs, he was part of the core team that won 3+ rings. Otherwise you would only retire Gervin, D-Rob and Duncan jerseys.
There are those of us who think Bruce should probably have two or three DPOYs in his trophy case right now, and that would have certainly helped his HOF credentials. As it is, he doesn't have a realistic shot without that hardware.
This is so frickin' true. Yes, He should have had at least 3 or 4 in my opinion. But it's crazy how there are actually people who would say we are crazy for even thinking that.
to be honest, bruce is my fave player on the team and my fave player since Robinson, but no he should not have his number retired.
44, 50, and 21 should be the only retired jerseys......maybe 9 when it is all said and done.
The rest of the players should be in a ring of honor......Silas, Moore, AJ, Elliott, Manu, Bowen, Gilmore, Robertson, Kenon, etc.....but their numbers should still be able to be worn by future Spurs.
Bruce is my favourite player out of our boys in blue, of course his jersey deserves a place hung on the ceiling of the at&t center.

Absolutely and for the same reasons Avery's was.
Its not about stats, its about value to the franchise and Bowen has brought that. Its the toughness that he brings, the spirit and fire he has to succeed. He was never a superstar by the traditional definition but he endeared himself to Spurs fans with his hard work. Also Bruce's off the court activities in the community are big. Avery was the same way, you can't have one in the rafters without the other.

But Bruce Bowen was none of those things, and he was not the best defender of his generation either - Tim Duncan was. In fact, he wasn't in the top five - all of whom are big men.
Bowen was the best perimeter defender of his generation, but that's like giving consideration to the most tireless at boxing out as "the best rebounder".
Rasheed Wallace was a of a lot better at boxing out his man than was Ben Wallace, but absolutely nobody will say that his 6.9 rebounds per game earns him a place with Rodman and Russell.
Bowen, like his defense, represents more than just quick feet and good positioning. He is tenacious, tough, and smart in running the defense. He is an energy guy and will demand the other players maintain that defensive pressure. His energy and will are paramount to the success of the team, especially when Manu is not playing.
Of course his community work, humor and all around being a good team mate helps make this team special.

Players who did not even make 1 all star appearance should not get retired jerseys. Retired jerseys are for the franchise type players, hall of famers and Bowen is not one of those.
