You do realize that if what you say is true (Ariza for 5-6, Odom for 8-10), it will cost the Lakers 10-11M for Ariza and 16-20M for Odom per year for at least the next 2 years. Yikes.
It will all deppend what they do in these playoffs, If they lose they're letting one of the two go. If they win it all, they'll take the hit and try to sign them both. Why try to fix something that is not broken!

We talked about him a few years ago and a big group of us wanted to go after him. That's back when he could have been had for less than the MLE. Now? It's probably too late and he's no longer a buy low.
Yeah, I was so pissed when LA landed him for a pair of old gym socks. I was talking with an LA guy today...he tells me that the Lakers think the market on Ariza might be less than the MLE. I told him that they were crazy. He's 23. Weird free agent season because of the economy and because it's a year prior to the big spending orgy. Everyone wants to save their cash.

He went to UCLA and plays for the NBA's glamour team, the Lakers.

Somehow I kind of doubt he's coming.

If the lakers implode and lose this year before the finals, they'll dump pieces.

We could make a good pickup with Ariza if that were to happen.

Certainly worth a shot, I have been following him since his NYK days and this kid can flat out play on both ends of the court. Who knows what the offseason holds, but if Ariza ends up in a Spurs uniform then it is a job well done.

That was after the 2007 ring, wasn't it? I was one of those people... we were all hoping the team might get a bit younger and more athletic because it was pretty clear that was the way the game was going, even then. But the FO decided to stay with vets instead, their worst mistake of the last two years I think (not reading the way the league has trended towards athleticism), although I see why they did it.

Man, Ariza could have been had for virtually nothing back then, he would have turned out to be another FO coup... meh, not to be...

Yes. Don't know if the Spurs have the bullets to get him. He seems to love being a Laker. Have to see how the Lakers do this year. The Lakers are well into luxury tax so it is going to cost them double to sign Ariza.
He loves money more than the Lakers. We can pay him more.

Where do you get the idea that we can pay more?

Spurs don't like to overspend on role players and thus doubt he would be offered the whole MLE. We offered the entire MLE last offseason to Corey Maggette but thats obviously because he was potentially another major piece. Ariza is only really a defensive specialist that can shoot the 3 and is really athletic. I like him a lot but don't think he is worth the full MLE. We can do better with that money.

This is true. Think about it. It would be a whole MLE and our offense wouldn't really improve that much.

@ those who argued that summer that Jared Jeffries was better than Ariza. Spurs could have locked Ariza up for about $3M per year back then

after ariza's pretty good playoff performance this year, i think the lakers would match even the full MLE. could have had ariza in the pass, but it's time to move on.

Damn, don't give up hope!!! I'd really like Ariza over Odom, or most any other SF available this summer.

Ariza or Odom would look good in a Spurs uniform. Unfortunately there is a slim to no chance of getting any of them.

If you could give Ariza Kobe's talent, he might be almost as good as Lakerfan says Kobe is.

I still remember him having an imressive outing against the Spurs in the pre-season up in New York, and thinking how nice of a fit he would be on the Spurs, but I'm not in love with him, the way most seem to be.

The player he became this year was quite an improvement but I'm skeptical as to how long he'll be able to stay out of the training room.

Maybe it's unfair, and admittedly I haven't looked to see how much time he's missed the last couple of seasons, but I've always had the impression of him being injury-prone.

If he can keep up the play of this season he'll be worth the MLE or a little more, but it would suck to pay that kind of cash, and be a signiicant hit to the team, if he's not capable of staying on the floor.

    If i had the choice:

    Odom > Ariza
Odom is more talented and versatile (damn can he create matchup problems), but Ariza shows up almost every single night
He is also a better defender than Odom

    Yeah...

In hindsight, I will take some lumps for advocating for Jackie Butler at that point, but he looked promising at the time and hindsight is always 20/20...
