Pretty much. That's why I called dirk4mvp's response the "Aggie to Longhorn" response. The Aggies have one goal and one goal alone: Beat the Longhorns. They even talk about beating Texas in their school song...lame. Over the past 5 years this same mentality has crept into Dallas regarding the Spurs, to the point where they play ridiculous videos and songs at the games about the Spurs. Seriously...does any other team in the league do this?

The Mavs are a rival and yes, it sucks to lose to a rival. But I've been over it for a while now. I'd rather concentrate on players that we can bring in to try to get this team another championship before Duncan retires.

10 plus years of going deep into the playoffs year after year and always coming out at or near the top has caused us to finally be nearing the end of a magnificent run but at a gasp. The Spurs are older, experienced & savvy. But they are also tired and dealing with injuries that come with frequently playing many more games per year than many lesser teams. I believe we have another year or two of fight left in us. So to be lucky enough to be entertained by Tim Duncan and Co. for 12 to 13 years and 4 Championships later, I as a fan could ask for nothing more. But to answer your question, at the MOMENT the Mavs ARE a tier above the Spurs.

I cant believe mavs fans are giving up.

We've some so far this season, we've gone through so many ups and downs, starting out 2-6, SpurFan ridiculing us about the Kidd trade, mediocrity, Howards ankle sprain, the end of the year run, ousting the Spurs, timvp messing with my fanhood by changing my team, and now i see MavNation crumbling to pieces.

We are still in this series guys! Don't lose hope!

I can concede the Mavs will in the championship this season, just like they did in the summer of 06. But it's a crystle clear truth that the Mavs won't keep their dominant power for a very long period, the core of the Mavs is not much younger than that of Spurs. Dirk, Jet and Kidd are all above 30, Brandon Bass is a potential youngster but the Mavs have little chance to retain him in summer.

Not only Mavs, but any other team for that matter. The future of NBA belongs to young guys like Kevin Durant and Jeff Green, so the Thunders will be the best team in NBA before very long.
