Mavs peaked at the perfect time like the Spurs usually do, but they couldn't do it.
Spurs dealt with serious injury problems at the wrong time of the season. Just bad luck.

Mavs fans weren't expecting anything this year. 8th/9th place. No playoffs or 1st round loss to Lakers. Looked like 35 win team in November and still a 45 win team in January. Mavs ended up losing in 2nd round

Now that the Dallas Mavericks season is over, it's time for ALL Mavs fans to scurry off and not come back here to Spurstalk till next season, or until their mediocre NBA team becomes relevant again, i.e. the Phoenix Suns. The Mavs and Suns will always be second tier teams. Now git Mavs fans!
And what about the mighty Spurs? How far did they get this year?
But we will reload and be back next year, playing for a championship just as we have nearly every year since Duncan has played as a Spur. The Mavs and the Suns on the other hand don't have that luxury. So it's time to say our goodbyes!

How many teams this decade can say they dethroned the Spurs? 3 - Lakers, Suns, and Mavs. Spurs fans and other Mav haters say that Mav fans are still bitter about the 2006 Finals but I would say Spurs fans are just as bitter as that 2nd round exit in 2006 than Mav fans are about the 2006 Finals.

What the ? I never gave a chance to the Mavs after they trashed the Spurs in the first round. Then again, I just feel bad for Dirk having all that talent and still not winning a ring. I mean, sooner or later the window's going to close on him. Question is, can he really win a ring on his own?

Hey, we were missing Devean George and Jerry Stackhouse. I think we get a pass on this one. George is a crafty veteran who makes crafty veteran plays with his crafty veteran-ness, while Stackhouse is a guy who can get you 20 off the bench.
