I could never pick who I thought was better between Jimi and Stevie. They were both just so damn good that for me, there's no way.

Just god damn sad they both died so young. Stevie's death hit me pretty hard as a young lad. Even in my naive youth, I knew there'd never be another like him.

I think the reason for me that I have srv pegged a notch above Hendrix is because I saw the dude live a number of times, never got to see Hendrix live since he passed away when I was only a few years old.

But, if you ever got the chance to see Stevie up close in person....man, I don't even know how to put it into words. That guy just put every ounce of his heart and soul into playing his guitar-you could literally feel the emotion he resonated from playing.

For me it all started at Aquafest in 1982, front row with Stevie playing Texas Flood. I didn't know what the blues music was at the time, but Stevie gave my an introduction that I'll never forget. and whipper Layton had their eyes just locked on to Stevie making sure they could try and follow him through each song. Great memories.

Both are equally good. I am a fan of both of them. Although, I favor Hendrix. Both were self taught & played the guitar with such a passion. BUT Hendrix played a right handed guitar & he was left handed. He self learned & played it upside down. Which was an incredible feat in itself. Hendrix took music to a level no one else did. And SRV continued what Jimi couldn't finish.

On a side note..It's been about 10 years or so, but visited Hendrix's grave in Renton, WA. I've been wanting to go back since the family has a little shrine now. But back then it was just a small headstone. I should go visit, I only live a couple of hours from there. If you ever want to see some really cool artifacts & a cool collection of music stuff..go to the EMP (Experience Music Project) in Seattle. Plan on spending hours. Lots of cool stuff.
