Is that you John Wayne? Is this me?
This is my rifle. There are many like it but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my rifle is useless. Without my rifle I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy, who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my rifle and myself are defenders of my country, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

That team was great. But wasn't AC Green the back-up C? The good thing about that team was all the 3 point ready shooters on the team. Harper, Shaw, Kobe, Fox, Horry, Rice
Yeah, and the back-up shooting guard on this Lakers team is Sasha Vujacic.

When you have Shaq as your starting center, especially when he's still at an age where he can average 40 mpg still, the back-up center is largely unimportant.

That Lakers team was stacked. And, the fact that that Lakers team had another superstar in Kobe, another legitimate 20+ ppg who can get his shot any time against anyone, that supporting cast trumps Kobe's current supporting cast. Gasol is good, very good. He's also a pussy sometimes. I'd take even that young Kobe as the second best player on a team over Gasol as the second best player on a team.

take away the Free Gift trade of gasol to kobe and we wouldnt even be talking about this.
what if Duncan were to recieve a Free Gift of that caliber? what if Duncan had on his team bynum, odom, gasol and ariza?
he would lose 10 games the whole year

all these other guys have had stacked teams and MVP type sidekicks...Duncan had robinson in '99 but by '03 drob was old and putting up less than half his career numbers..the other years he had teams of either role players or 2nd round draft picks stepping up, hes only had an all-star on his team like 3 times besides him...

if duncan had a Kobe or Wade on his team for 6-7 of his years he would certainly have around 8 les by now

Yeah cuz Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli suck right, and you also have Finley who was pretty good in his prime and is still a good shooter, Tim also had Hedo and Stephen Jackson

I dont think the Lakers winning will really mean anything for Kobe.

The Lakers are SUPPOSE to beat the Magic. They have considerably more talent than the Magic.

Maybe theres not enough compe ion for the Lakers right now and thats not Kobes fault, but last year he sure did lay an egg against a worthy opponent.

    Um...ever heard of Shaquille Oneal?

Four les and 6 finals appearances.

    Can Duncan compete with that?

Plus in his prime (during this decade) he was the most dominant player ever to play the game. Duncan was never as un-guardable as Shaq was.
Yeah Duncan can compete with that.......4 les in 4 finals appearances.

    Very consistent player
Tons of all nba/all nba defensive teams
    all star starts
stats to back it up that were based on skill and knowledge of the game rather than brute force/power.

So by that logic Robert Horry is the player of the decade.

This decade, the last 10 seasons:

    1. 2008-09
    2. 2007-08
    3. 2006-07
    4. 2005-06
    5. 2004-05
    6. 2003-04
    7. 2002-03
    8. 2001-02
    9. 2000-01
    10. 1999-2000

The 1998-99 Spurs Championship doesn't fall in the 2000 decade or fall within the last 10 years.

If you are only counting the 2000's, in that case, it's Shaq.

    But really, career-wise, it's Duncan.

By the way, a DECADE is 10 years.

10 years ago, on June 25, 1999 ...the Spurs won the championship.

A decade is 10 years. 10 years ago this month, the Spurs were playing in the 1999 NBA Finals.

Argue all you want...but when people talk about this era, they are gonna remember two teams and three players.

    Lakers and Spurs

    Shaq, Kobe, and Duncan.

Decade = 10 years. Yes it does.

I mean, I know what you are trying to say, but 1999 NBA Finals was exactly 10 years ago.

You just want to count the 2000's, and that's fine. Just clarifying

We should wait after the end of next season to ask this question. The decade IMO should be from the 2000-01 to the 2009-10 seasons.

It depends on what happens next season.

For the 2000's, as it stands RIGHT NOW, it's :

    1) Shaq
    2) Duncan
    3) Kobe
