Go straight to a Rubios and have fish tacos.
I am amazed at Baseline Bums post…Very informative…If you want to see freaks, check out Venice Beach & Hollywood Blvd…You don’t want to be in Venice when the sun goes down…
Thanks, SC. By the way manufan, if you make it to the aircraft carrier in San Diego you'll know exactly why David Robinson got let out of his service commitment early. I'm almost a foot shorter than him and I had to walk like a hunchback through a lot of the interior. If you're into fighter/attack planes they have lots of cool ones on the deck too... F-14 Tomcat, F/A-18 Hornet, F-4 Phantom, A-6 Intruder, A-4 Skyhawk, A-7 Corsair II, F-8 Crusader (first time I have ever seen one of those), MiG25 (I think), and at least 10-15 more that I can't remember (in addition to a couple of WWII fighters on the lower deck).
Another really cool place I forgot to mention is Vasquez Rocks north of town (LA). It's a really fun place just to hike around for a few hours in, and has been in countless movies, tv shows, music videos, etc. You'll instantly feel like you're in an old western movie the second you get here.
It's REALLY HOT because it's in a really nasty desert north of town, but it's a fun place to be if you love just walking outdoors like a kid.
This is a must see:

When i get enough money i will really look into to all of these places.
I had to cut my trip in half.. my friend's car broke down, so we had to pay for that to get fixed. Stayed in Long Beach for a week. We did the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Santa Monica Pier, the Hollywood sign. Didn't get to go to San Diego or San Francisco. We're going to go out there again in November, so we'll probably go check those out. The weather there is absolutely amazing.
I recommend eating here if you go to LA:
Best hot dogs ever!

I'm going to be in the Newport Beach / Santa Ana area all week - anybody have some good restaurant recommendations?
I'm going to hit the Crab Cooker in NB and of course In-n-Out. But I'm looking for the can't miss restaurant you always have to go to when you're in town.
Thanks!
If I was going to go eat one thing it would be raw oysters from the big fish market on the Redondo Beach pier. They're expensive as , the place is ridiculously crowded on any summer weekend, but they have a huge selection of outstanding oysters of the pacific. Really nice wild salmon and halibut there too. For lobster or crab I'd go somewhere else though, especially on a weekend, because the cooks look swamped and it's a madhouse just to pick up your order then.
